Oct 19, 2012 11:52 AM in response to JennC1972by planb77,If you want to manually reorder the content for your iPod via iTunes, you need to enable Manual management from under the Shuffle's Summary tab in iTunes.
Otherwise if syncing automatically, you'll need to order everything in your iTunes library first (whether that be a playlist or album) and then resync your Shuffle.

Oct 19, 2012 2:53 PM in response to JennC1972by JennC1972,I have enabled manual management this morning when installing, but it still wouldn't allow me to change the order of my songs around. I clicked on the left sided tab under my ipod of "music".

Oct 20, 2012 5:32 PM in response to JennC1972by Cheesy G,If you are syncing a playlist to your iPod, viewing the playlist within iTunes rather than inside the iPod section might let you do what you want.

Oct 21, 2012 7:58 AM in response to JennC1972by planb77,And the tracks were still grayed out after enabling Manual Management? Did you click the Apply button in the lower right hand corner after enabling the option to update the changes to the Shuffle?

Oct 24, 2012 2:13 PM in response to JennC1972by JennC1972,I clicked enable, the tracks were not greyed out. It looked the same as when I had my old Ipod and was able to move the tracks around. For some reason when I am uploading my tracks, they are put in an alphabetical order, and not the order I have uploaded them.

Oct 24, 2012 2:16 PM in response to JennC1972by planb77,Did you reorder the tracks already located on the Shuffle via iTunes in the desired order? Is the 3 way switch on the top set to Play in Order?

Oct 24, 2012 2:24 PM in response to planb77by JennC1972,Itunes won't let me re-order under my Ipod device. I listen to them by play in order or shuffle sometimes. It won't let me move them around in the order I want them.

Oct 24, 2012 2:34 PM in response to JennC1972by planb77,Why not? They shouldn't be grayed out any longer if the manually manage music option is ticked from under the iPod's Summary tab.

Oct 24, 2012 2:42 PM in response to planb77by JennC1972,They're not greyed out, it just won't let me move them. I believe I saw some other discussion of the newest Itunes update has some type of a glitch or problem with it.

Oct 24, 2012 4:33 PM in response to JennC1972by Cheesy G,★HelpfulHow are you selecting music for the iPod? Are you syncing a playlist, or choosing for it to be filled automatically? The way that the shuffle is synced was changed from Gen 2 to Gen 3. The way that you are used to using the Gen 2 shuffle, where you have a list of songs inside the iPod under "devices," is simply not available with the newer shuffles. I have a 3rd gen Shuffle, and there is no way for me to reorder the songs inside "music" or inside the playlists within the "devices" area - the only way I can set the order of songs is to create a playlist for syncing, and reorder that playlist the way I want within the iTunes playlists. When I go in through devices, and look at the contents of my Shuffle, I can see the songs, but I can't change the playlists in any way. I think this is the behaviour that Apple has designed for the shuffles after 2nd gen. If you just play the music files in straight-through order, it plays alphabetically by artist name. The only way around this is to create a playlist of the right size to fit on your iPod, preferably a smart playlist unless you always want the same music on there, and sync that playlist across. (Or multiple playlists.)

Oct 26, 2012 7:58 AM in response to Cheesy Gby JennC1972,Thank you Cheesy G! This was driving me crazy. It ***** that Apple reconfigured things that way. I liked the way my 2nd G I could put them in the order I wanted played. I have a 4th gen now. I will just have to create playlist in the order I want my music played. Thank you thank you! I was getting so irritated!
