When I export a file from Pages, it creates a pdf.  Why not a jpeg?

When I change the pdf to a jpeg, the resulting image is huge, not in kbs, but in size.  I want to paste jpegs IN my email, not as attachments.

When I use the rename function to rename a file, it never takes.

Anybody?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), my email program is gmail

There is no direct export to jpg.

You can open the pdf in Preview .app and when you save to jpeg you can choose both the size in pixels and the resolution.

There seems to be a bug in Rename…, you have to select the entire File Name and change it, you can't just change bits of it.

btw PC users will probably still see your jpeg as attachments unless you structure them into HTML.

Preview, in Mountain Lion, allows you to select a triangle next to the filename, and in the drop down menu, you can select Rename. This highlights only the basename of the file. The selection triangle will return after the rename.

If you want to scale down an image file, both in dimensions, and see the resultant size, try the Tools > Adjust Size ... menu item in Preview. The screen capture is from an opened png file.
