Working in imovie 9, I have an audio clip (voiceover narration) that I would like to split. I want to use all of it, but I need to divide it up into sections. How do I do that?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), iMovie 09

I haven't tried it lately, but here is what I would try.

    1) Select your voiceover clip so that it is highlighted with a yellow border.

    2) Type Command-C to copy and Command-V to paste. You should now have two copies of the voiceover.

    3) Drag one of the clips to the place you need it. You can drag the left edge to the right until it starts where you want.

    4) For the other one, drag the right edge to the left until it stops where you want.

That seems like a brilliant idea, but when I have the audio track selected and try copy and pasting, nothing appears to happen.  I would assume the duplicate would appear on another track, below the original. Zip. I tried moving the track around to see if the copy was hiding underneath it, but no luck.

I just tried it and my method is working for me. It works both with Command-C and Command-V from the keyboard as well as with EDIT/COPY EDIT/PASTE from the menu.

I am running iMovie 11 (Version 9.0.8) so maybe this is new in iMovie 11.

Nope. Command C and V don't do anything, and from the edit menu I can copy, but once copied, "paste" is grayed out. This seems like a really dumb thing not to be able to do. I can't believe there's no clear way to do it.

You can upgrade to iMovie 11 for anout $15 (in the US) but you might also have to upgrade to Mountain Lion or Lion if your Mac supports it.
