Q: iPhone 5 can't send SMS - gets an error when sending SMS

People - I'm using a Sprint iPhone 5 with my local GSM chip. Everything works fine, except sending SMS.

All basic troubleshooting has been done: checked SMS settings, erased Network Settings, checked SMS Service # through *#5005*7672# and it is fine, restored the phone and re-checked everything above again... and nothing. :-(

Please help?

    No iOS 6.0.1, I have iOS 6.0

From what I understand It isn´t a problem with the iOS but with the lock/unlock of the device

    Hi Max,

Can you let me know how can you "restore from zero"?

Did you need your original SPRINT SIM when you did that?

Apple's guy said to me that they need SPRINT SIM to do something, but I've lost it, so they said, let's ignore that .

    Thanks.

No Sprint SIM needed... only with your sim!

restore from zero is restore from itunes as a new device (I do this)

But if iTunes dont say "Congratulations, your device is activated" dont work

Hey guys , m sorry but I tend to agree with max, if it worked for someone then it should be good for all of us, I think accusing anyone about a lie would be highly unfair. I guess he had mentioned the way it worked for him, and that's the best he could do, and if it didn't or doesn't work for others would be unfair to accuse anyone for it. Lets be mature about such things rather than Getting petty and I'm-mature.

    Hi all,

I would say that it might be possible, the unlocking of the devices to solve the problem. Someone on another post with the same problem sayd the same thing and that it solved the problem, so it makes already 2 cases.

The problem here is that many of us called apple and they said that they can't unlock the phones, so it's a matter of "luck". Apple or Sprint has to provide a solution for everyone, not just some happy cases.

Guys, I think we should post the problem not only here, but on the Facebook wall of Apple / IPhone5  / Sprint.

It will make much more buzz than here.

I'm sure their interest to solve it will change immediatly.

Why did someone delete all the links from the previous messages?

Guys - you don't need my links to find Sprint / Apple / Iphone Facebook wall.

Please write there and this problem will be solved!

    Hi Max,

Thank you so much for posting this, I have been talking with an apple support supervisor and she told me another supervisor told her that apple could do the unlock also. She asked me if it is possible you could post your case number and your authorization so she can reference it with the engineer she is working with so they can do the same to my phone?

Thank you so much in advance and I'm glad your iPhones are working

    -Willie

    P.s.

Bratzi , I saw that and it was die by the forum editor so it looks like try do look at the post and they don't want us to talk about it in public or to the press... Lmao

Hi Everyone, just looking at the original post.  I've had something similar recently.   I moved from Nokia to iPhone 5.  Since I travelled overseas sometimes I fell in the habit with my nokia to enter all phone numbers with the respective IDD (international country code) included.  So in Australia for example I would enter a cell phone number, say, 0412 345 678 as +61 (0) 412 345 678.  Now the Nokia system coped with this and if I called when out of country it would just work. I didn't first have to try and figure out what that country's dial out code was (and most countries are different)

But Apple can't cope with that way of entering cell phone numbers which was the reason I could not text to any of my contacts.  I could make / receive calls and receive SMS's.  (there's a setting in iphone which tells it which country the phone comes from and it's a smart phone so figures out correct dial out codes itself)

To solve I had to manually change all my numbers.  Appel were quick to replace my phone and off course upon entering a cell phone number manually (and without IDD code) the text was succesful so it looked solved.  However after all my contacts came back from iCloud the problem returned.  Eventually a technician at my telco figured it out. Hoorah!!

So anyone who has this issue should also check how they have entered their numbers.  This is much easier than the numerous trips to telco / apple, many resets, network settings checks and checking the ##5 etc checks.

Hope this helps someone, it drove me crazy for a couple of weeks.

    hi Viber

thanks for the tip, however i did try this and yet didnt seem to work, to help me understand this better since this worked for you, could kinldy clarify....

    1. in the phone settings is your international dial assist on or off?

    2. in your contacts have you manually saved your contacts with the international dialing code? For example in India I have stored all number prefixed with +91,  so are you saying i should save all numbers without +91?
