http://www.apple.com/se/ipad-mini/features/ contains information about Smart Cover, but nothing about Smart Case. This is really disappointing, I would buy the iPad Mini as soon as possible if I could buy it with a Smart Case, but now I need to wait. Yes, protecting the back is very important for me, I dont want any scratches.

Apple please release a Smart Case for the iPad Mini as soon as possible! Im not the only one who hesitates to buy the iPad Mini because of this.

    In reply to the OP,

I'd love to see an Apple SmartCase as well.  The SmartCovers are OK, but clearly they do not protect the entire device, they only protect the screen.

I cannot say when Apple will release (if ever) a SmartCase for the Mini, but keep in mind that when the original iPads came out, the SmartCovers came first, and only a few weeks later did Apple also introduce the corresponding SmartCases.

Finally.... there is a great 3rd-party SmartCover and SmartCase manufacturer for the iPads and iPad Minis.  The company is called Incipio.  https://www.incipio.com/store

Take a peek at their web store, where they are taking pre-orders for their iPad Mini cases, the "Lexington" style case is almost a clone of Apple's own SmartCase.  They have been selling this for the regular iPads, and are now pre-ordering for the Minis.  Their Lexington SmartCase for the bigger iPads is very similar to Apple's, including the magnetic sleep-awake function.  The main difference?  Incipio's products are a few dollars cheaper, and they come in like a dozen more colors.
