i have a 1 TB disk with Lion and a WIN 7 and WIN XP BOOT CAMP partition on it.

i would like to back up this disk to two external hard drives with one kept on site and one kept off site.

can i do this these days?

i am a bit confused as to whether the boot camp partitions have to be backed up independently somehow.

TIA

i saw this thread but it is from 08 and i am not even sure i understand it very well.

You need 2 separate backup systems, one for Windows and one for OSX, so that's 4 drives if you want to keep copy offsite.

    thank you.

just to see if i have this right.

i have a 1 TB drive with Lion on it and TWO partitions with boot camp installations. one of these is for XP and the other is for WINDOWS 7.

    1. can i back this up to ONE 1 TB drive with 3 partitions and do this using Carbon Copy Cloner with 3 scripts running at the same time? or can i do this but only have a BOOTABLE clone of the Mac OS doing it this way?!

    2. i mean, the hatter seems to be recommending CampTuneX to copy a Windows installation to a MAC VOLUME (as opposed to Paragaon CLone OS which can only go Windows Drive to WIndows drive?!).

    3. also, going with CampTuneX to BACKUP the BOOT CAMP installs will mean they are bootable whereas doing this with CCC the FAQ specifically states they are backups and not bootable.

    4.  i am not really sure what the difference between a backup and bootable means. can i COPY the backup back to a corrupted drive and boot from that or does a "BACKUP" imply that i will have to do a full re-installation and re-migration of data...?

anything you can help with here would be great as i am waiting to hear back from paragon on some of this.

I use CCC which can do a block copy of your drive, this will include all partitions, the Windows partitions are unlikely to boot without repair after this operation. You can also use CopyCatX to perform block copies with the same result.

Winclone never worked at anything for me, Casper also was bad.

Fortunately I never use Windows for anything that actually matters so I just delete and reinstall for the next time I need it.

Windows on a Mac is an accident waiting to happen however.

    I like your aphorism:

Windows on a Mac is an accident waiting to happen however.

Perhaps the best backup for Boot Camp is to have the identical installation on a PC.

    I agree.
