I too had the same problem. Try:
1. Resetting the ipad by holding the sleep button and the home button simultaneously till the apple logo appears. And then try setting up facetime. It worked for me.
2. Setting the facetime through the facetime option in Settings.
Hope this helps.

Then try restoring the iOS firmware once again using itunes. I am quite sure, it should work then. If the problems persists, then contact nearest apple store.

I have tried everything and it does not work. Apple don't have a clue how to rectify it. Even the recent upgrade to 6.01 did not take this problem into consideration.

I have had the same problem. I am not a wealthy person but purchased an iPad for my sister in large part to do FaceTime. All was working great until I upgraded to ios6. It only works intermittently if at all. My other sister has the same problem. This is very disappointing.

I hate to say this, but when I went to the Apple Store they checked everything and then all of a sudden it worked. Got it home and it worked. Went to use it the next day and it did not work again. I got so mad, I picked up the ipad and shook it. Not very hard and low and behold, it works. When I try to use it and it doesn't ring, i just shake it alittle and it starts to ring. Be very careful, because you could do more harm than good.
