Issue 1: The MacBook Pro has suddenly become so slow and unresponsive with Safari open and none of the icons are responding, Launchpad opens so slowly, but when I quit Safari(With effort) it's back to normal. As a technologist I am quite puzzled with this and if it has relation at all to Issue 2.

Issue 2: The built in camera seems to have a lose connection or something because it randomly goes off and the green light goes off too! At times when I open PhotoBooth it says ''There is no camera connected'' which scares the crap out of me. I have to restart and it works but sometimes goes off-on every few minutes if I left it on. Due to this Skype cannot detect and I cannot have video conversations. I bought my Mac in July 2012 and am running Mountain Lion with the latest update.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I have the same problem as your issue 1 , no matter u restart or reinstall the problem is still there, keep freezing all the time, if u close all the application then become normal, even I open itunes. using version 10.6.8

The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.

Scroll back in the log to the time you noted above. Post any messages timestamped during that interval – the text, please, not a screenshot.

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.

Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into a message.

Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

Alright so this happened again and I hope I got the exact time right, at 12:59 pm, 30 seconds and 31 seconds I see these two lines of code that are not normal like the above ones that kept coming, they just suddenly appear. Here they are:

    26/10/12 12:59:30.553 PM WindowServer[75]: CGXSetWindowBackgroundBlurRadius: Invalid window 0xffffffff

    26/10/12 12:59:31.116 PM WindowServer[75]: CGXSetWindowBackgroundBlurRadius: Invalid window 0xffffffff
And then I see around 3-4 lines about sandbox.

    First, try this:

Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

If there's no improvement, proceed as below.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.

    Step 1

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.

Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”

While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.

Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?

After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

    Step 2

The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.

Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:

    1. Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
    2. When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
    3. If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.

Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.

The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Alright so I created a separate guest user and tried the camera on that, still the same issue. But this cannot be a hardware issue since I used my Mac right from July without experiencing any such issues, it worked perfectly on Lion. These problems only came in after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

Hi david. I had the same problem. My macbook pro 13 inch became slow with mountain lion. I repaired the disk permissions and everythign else. But no effect. However when I start my macbook pro in safe mode, everything seems fine. Mouse is behaving normal and things are ok.

Please tell me what shall I do?

    Urgent response will be appreciated.

If everything is working in Safe Mode, then you may have a non-Apple kext that's loading on startup and causing problems. Restart and have a look at your system Console. Also see ds store's great user tip - Step by Step to fix your Mac.

thanks.. i saw the step by step document.. Which solution applies to me... Its something related to graphics kext creating problem... Coz on safe mode computer speed is ok.. what to do?

Go into Terminal (Applications>Utilities) and copy and paste:

    kextstat

... and hit Return to see which kexts are loaded. If you see any non-Apple ones, try moving them out of System>Extensions and rebooting to see if that clears up your problem.

And that's while not in Safe Mode, correct?

I don't see anything suspicious at all - odd that your problem goes away when in Safe Mode. You said that you created a new user and the problem persisted? But that in Safe Mode everything works as it should?

This is beyond me, now - we'll just have to wait for Linc to re-appear.

    Sorry...

yes this is whilst not in safe mode...

can you please convey this problem to linc... really worried?

I think its something to do with smcsensor... the mouse behaviour and overall system speed..

I'm sure that he's subscribed to this thread, so he should get the message...

I would say that it's a hardware problem that should be diagnosed by Apple if it weren't for the fact that Safe Mode alleviates the problem. And if it was a software problem, it would likely work with creating a new user.

Give Linc time to respond - but be ready to make a trip to your local Apple Store or an AASP.
