Oct 26, 2012 2:48 PM in response to SUby Old Toad,This might be of help: Using AVCHD video with iPhoto '11. That's the extent of my knowledge of the issue.
However, there's lot of info in this topic: Using AVCHD video with iPhoto '11: Apple Support Communities

Oct 26, 2012 2:50 PM in response to SUby Terence Devlin,The most recent version of iPhoto supports some AVCHD codecs, but not all. As for the RAW format - that is supported in the latest Raw update, so both still image formats are supported.
The camera also shoots MP4, correct? If you're not shooting to edit, (in which case you'd use iMovie) why shoot AVCHD? All you get is more file size for no point, no?

Oct 26, 2012 3:00 PM in response to SUby SU,i have used that article but it doesn't seem to be supported by dragging and dropping the icon to iphoto. Unfortunately, import/converting removes the exif information that resides in the video file. gps / date creation etc.
seems like mp4 format is default but avchd is also. So records in mp4.

Nov 1, 2012 5:17 PM in response to LarryHNby SU,MTS (AVCHD) which is MP4 but the avchd which seems to be a format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AVCHD) developed by sony and panasonic is the issue. I get the unreadable dialog box in here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5251.)
9.4.1 iphoto

May 21, 2013 9:48 AM in response to SUby SU,Just to give you a heads up. You can choose to shoot video in a non-AVCHD format but by default the camera shoots AVCHD so go to the settings to change that. But a owner can chime in to confirm just in case i'm getting my sony cams mixed up.
Also, iphoto 9.4.3 still does not support this MTS format.

Jun 22, 2013 9:15 AM in response to SUby joe2cool,I'm using iPhoto 9.4.1, and I just imported a bunch of videos, and am watching them. So I'm quite sure that it does work.
I dragged and dropped the "PRIVATE" folder onto iPhoto. No problems, just worked.
