    Hi,

I updated to Mountain Lion yesterday and I have the same issue.

I cant login to Message or FaceTime with my AppleID.

I've tryed all the things that had been mentation in this thread but have not yet succed.

One thing I noticed when trying to logon in Message: If I type wrong password I dont get a error message saying: wrong password or username

So my question is: Does it even try to contact Apple Server to verify my AppleID?

Another thing, if I check my keychain I have a few apple certificates that has expired. I have also a few maybe 4-5 keys that holds my AppleID. Dont know if they all are needed? And I cant really see what service they are connected to.

I came over another question on here with same issue about Game Center.

One of the answears there was about the HOST file.

I had this in my hosts file:

    127.0.0.1          CRL.VERISIGN.NET

I removed it and both Message and FaceTime is now working!

Now my next question: What does it do? And do I need it in my Hosts file?

    / Richard T.

    HI

I also tried the instructions and had nothing with a blue + icon.

But there again I don't have an issue.

You should be able to alter the Trust status of a Certificate if you think it should be trusted.

    HI,

The IP address of 127.0.0.1 refers things back to the computer itself.

You can use it to stop some app Calling Home  for Registration and Update checks.

    Generally it should remain unchanged.

Most people who have altered Hosts files can "Comment Out" the lines they have that are changed or additions

(Add a # in front of lines that you don't want read) rather than removing them.

I can see no reason you would need to keep this entry though.

CRL.VERISIGN.NET is the hostname of the Certificate Revocation List server for Verisign. This is the host part of the URL that certificates issued by Verisign will have in them for fetching the list of certificates Verisign has revoked, probably because they have been compromised in some way.

A hosts entry of 127.0.0.1 for CRL.VERISIGN.NET is basically an entry that will make the Verisign CRL URL never work. The only conceivable reason I can think of for doing this would be if you wanted to continue to make use of a revoked certificate.

If you do not specifically remember doing this, then I would tend to suspect some kind of security problem on your machine led to it being there. If there is a pattern of this entry showing up on a lot of macs, then it suggests something systematic and not-very-legitimate is going on.

    HI,

It seems to be telling you there is not iMessages account.

Then it says it has issues with IMAgent  (responsible for all other Messages logins except Yahoo - AIM, Jabber, Bonjour)

Then it is doing an impression of a chicken with no head.

I am not sure why it would even be calling on CalendarAgent.

If you create a new/test Mac Users account does Messages work there ?

Yeah, I already create a new test user and still didn't work. Things I already did:

-- Remove the plist for imessage, ichat, facetime

-- Check the Keychain certificates and use the first aid kit

    -- Kill the imagent

    -- Create test user

-- Check the host file and remove everything there
    -- Try in safe mode

    -- Clean PRAM

Im thinking to reinstall the OSX from scratch, try to connect and then use Time Machine to restore all.

Do you think thats a good idea?

    Hi,

You do seem to have tried everything.

A Restore (fresh OS Install) may be the only route left.

Migrating stuff back with the help of Time Machine may just recreate the issues and will need careful consideration about what you want to bring back.

Hey RTapper, I am having the same issue: it doesnt matter what I put in the apple id/password for imessage, it keeps telling me that " Please check your network connection." You mentioned that you deleted one of the lines from your host file. Can you please tell/show me how you did it?

It seems like my macbook for some reason is not even reaching the apple server. Can there be anything that can be blocking the connection between my laptop and the apple server? I even made a new apple id to see if anything changes but it keeps giving me the same message.

    Hi,

Ity seems that some DNS servers can't find the Apple servers involved in this.

Adding a Public DNS server to your Network settings can help.

    Google run 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

Here they are added to my settings
