<< With the document open, choose File > “Move to,” choose iCloud from the Move pop-up menu, and then click Move. >>

I am trying to save a Pages document to iCloud but nothing comes up when I select Move To. I am using OS 10.8.2. What is wrong?

My second problem is only indirectly related to Pages but I thought that I would ask anyway. When I save a Pages file as a .pdf and then open the .pdf, it always comes up at 300% magnification and I then have to reset the page to normal at a 100%. This repetitive task gets annoying after awhile. What can I tweak so that the .pdf opens at 100% ?

Cheers

You have a Pages document, and you want to save it to iCloud, even if you started that document, “On your Mac.”

Since you are using 10.8.2, at the top of your Pages document, click once on the name. You will see a small triangle next to the filename. Select this triangle, and on the pop-up menu, you will choose the Move To ... menu item. In so doing, it drops a Save As dialog that defaults to iCloud for the destination. I just tested this with Pages '09 v4.2.

Assuming that your default PDF viewer is Preview, you can control the default page size by tweaking your Toolbar.

    View > Customize Toolbar

    1. Press Command and click on the default Toolbar Zoom control (- and +). Drag it off the Toolbar and release the mouse button.
    2. Click and drag the 3-part Zoom control from the customize palette to the Preview Toolbar.
    3. Click and drag the Scale control to the Toolbar. Also, Zoom to Fit and Actual Size controls, if you want.

It should look like mine below. Click on the center ① to set 100%. Now opening PDF default to 100%, not 300%.

Thanks very much for that great explanation about customizing the Toolbar in Preview. Now I have the .pdf's opening just the way I want them - at the actual size - so that's great.

As to the moving of Pages documents to iCloud, I can now do that as well, thanks to your pointing out the way. It seems though, that when we move a document to iCloud, it disappears from the folder that it was in on the iMac. Maybe I can't have everything, but it would be nice if the document stayed on the iMac and a copy was placed in the Cloud. Is that possible?

    Cheers

When you first launch Pages, it presents a file browsing dialog or an option to choose a new document. At the top of this dialog, there is a selection choice of On my Mac, or iCloud. If you choose iCloud, you will see all of your Pages documents displayed on a grey flannel background.

    You have four actionable choices.

    1. Remove the file by clicking and dragging to desktop. This presents a warning dialog.
    2. Copy the file by Option+click and drag to desktop. No warning.
    3. Double-click the iCloud file to open in Pages.
    4. Right-button select the file for a menu of familiar options.

As far as I can tell, to place the same file on both iCloud and local disk, you would need to save the file to iCloud, then use the Option-Save As ... route and choose local storage.

This has been a very illuminating discussion for me. Thanks for your patience and help with the issues. One final item if I may. I have made Preview my default for viewing pdf's and as long as I stick with it, it's going to give me the 100% view that we discussed.

But a lot of the stuff that I download off the web seems to be openable only with Adobe Reader and when this is the case, every single .pdf opens at 299%. Is there a similar trick that we employed with Preview that I could use on Adobe Reader to ensure that documents open at 100% ?. This will be the last question - I promise!

    Cheers

Acrobat Reader > Preferences > Page Display > Zoom

I did not find 100% offered in the Zoom selection box. So, where it said Automatic (not 100%), I typed 100 and clicked OK. The next PDF I opened in Acrobat Reader was set at 100%. Setting looks like this:

I am using Acrobat Reader XI 11.0.0.

    Hope this helps.
