How were you able to get the SIM swap method to work? I have a 3GS and when I put the TMobile SIM in, it never changed the Cellular Data to where I can edit it. All I can do it turn the cellular data on or off. HELP!! please!! I don't know what else I can do!

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2283#

"Unless you're using a configuration profile, an update of iOS resets any modifications made to the APN settings. If you edited your APN settings before updating iOS, these settings will be reset to the default values. You may need to reapply these settings after an iOS update"

    So you can either:

-go to http://www.unlockit.co.nz/ at the bottom click on create APN, and follow the steps. (The easy route)...or

-go to Apple and download the IPhone Configuration utility, and do it yourself which is more fun and also better since the custome APN will stay even when you update the OS.

    For MacOS: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1465

    For Windows: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1466

I believe the Straight Talk APN info came with the SIM card, or you can find it on their site.

iPhone Configuration Utility will get Data working, but NOT MMS. Other than jailbreaking, the only successful way to get both is using the SIM swap method.

I'd rather have MMS working when I need it, and later deal with resetting the APN settings for the rare updates.

    Using the SIM swap method:

After you get the APN settings to come up, you have to double check that att.mvno is still in the APN fields before you exit this screen. Stay on that screen for an extra minute or so after you enter everything. It takes over a minute for the iPhone to pull data from the SIM card, which is why it changes in the middle of inputting the info. I found that this is where the problem is.

It will probably take a couple of tries with swapping the SIM cards before you finally get the APN settings to appear and stay onscreen. The quickest way to do the swap is put the Straight Talk sim on your screen in the orientation needed to go in the SIM card tray. As soon as the APN appears, quickly eject and dump the T-Mobile (or Verizon) SIM card, and slide the ST card in the tray.

Mine has been perfect. It hasn't lost the settings since. No jailbreak required!

I tried all of the trick to get my 4s working on straight talk and it would not keep the APN setting for anything. Then I found the secret. Check to be sure SMS or regular texting is working. If not call Straight Talk and they will work with you to get it working. Then do the above and your data and MMS will work like a charm.

Before trying any of the methods  to get Data and MMS to work, first be SURE SMS or regular texting is working. Try texting to yourself. If you recieve it back youre OK if not call ST an they will work with you to get texting to work. THEN do the above steps and Data and MMS will fianlly work.

I pride myself on understanding directions. I have a good grasp of technology. I can even watch a video and follow along. Despite all of the above mentioned skills I cannot for the life of me get this to work on my iPhone 4s running iOS 6. Yes' I have followed the sim swap directions to the letter. I have also downloaded the iPhone configuration utility and put the att.mvno changes in through there. I tried the ibackupbot method.  Even went so far as to blame my iPhone and swapped it out for a new one at the Apple store. Nothing. My wife has an iPhone 4 not on it's 6.0 that I was able to do without an issue. For some reason this 4s running iOS 6 will not work.  Don't want to go back to AT&T rates, nor do I want to go to tmobiles slow edge speeds. Has anyone done anything differently to get this method working? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

I confirmed that this method works for iOS 6.0.1 on 4s locked to AT&T.  I did notice however that MMSC setting of "http://www.mmsc.cingular.com" does not seem to work, but dropping the www to "http://mmsc.cingular.com/" does work.

I am in the same boat as you. I have tried everything. I cannot get an option to edit my Cingular Data. All I can do is turn it on or off. If you figure it out, please let me know!! I have settled for using a Straighttalk smart phone in the mean time, but I REALLY want my iPhone back!!!

It's one of the settings that has to be changed once you are able to get to the "Cellular Network" area.

Oh, okay. That's the part I can't get to! All I have the option to do is turn it off or on. I can't set up any settings. I have tried the sim swap method and it still won't give me that option. Any suggestions?

Patience and persistance. Being quick with the SIM swap is a huge bonus. I had to do a few reboots with the Verizon SIM installed and swapping out before it finally let me in to change the settings.

I was able to correctly do the sim swap and enter the appropriate APN settings. I then toggled back and forth between settings and notes to make sure the settings stuck. I backed out of it and of course the option to enter cellular data settings dissappeared. I toggled airplane mode on and off, and then....nothing. I repeated the process, I am getting very good at the steps now, and reentered the info. Nothing. I tried going to unlockit.co.nz and installing the profile for straight talk and then..nothing. I dont care about mms not working I just want the data. I used iPhone configuration utility to change settings to att.mvno as well.

It's been a few weeks and now I'm debating trying another carrier, such as T Mobile, to get my data working. I know it will be insanely slow, but the need to constantly rely on wifi is getting old.

Just going to unlockit.co.nz and installing the profile should be enough to get data and sms going.  What model phone and version of ios?
