this was in a thread a while ago, but i never got a definitive answer.  i have a handful of video files that are tagged as "TV show" in iTunes on my mac.  to be clear, they are in the TV Shows category in the iTunes library, NOT movies.  i have itunes set to automatically sync unwatched episodes of TV shown onto my iPad, which it does succesfully - sort of.  of course, to watch these on my iPad i should use the built-in Videos app. the problem is, videos will not show the tv shows that i have synced.  and it's even worse than that – there's not even a "TV Shows" tab at the top of the screen when i launch the videos app.  it's just plain not there:  the tabs are Movies and Shared, and that's it.

before you ask if i actually synced the tv shows, they are most definitely on my iPad, and in fact i CAN watch them, but to do so i have to do a search for the title of the show.  when the title pops up in search results, i select it and the video plays just fine.  so its not the end of the world, but it's annoying.  i want to be able to browse the shows i have on there rather than search for them, and i can't.  please help.

thanks.

Turn iPad off, turn it back on.

Encountering the same problem. So none of these solutions are helpful. TV shows are synced with the iPad 2 but no TV Show tab displays. This is a bug. Is anyone from Apple support monitoring these forums? Help.

i think i have the answer

first the TV shows should be seen as tv shows in your itunes library on mac/pc

    tv copy.jpg

to do this you have to edit the properties of the file by right clicking on the file and choosing "more info".

choose the "option" tab under the more info window. now select the media kind as "TV Show" .

    option copy.jpg

    thats all

The TV Shows section should show up when a properly formatted TV show is sync to the iPad. In iTunes check your TV Show tags to ensure there is a name entered in the "Show" field of the video tab. It probably doesn't hurt to have the Season and Episode number in there as well. The Episode name is entered in the Name field of the Info tab similar to music.

The TV Show was downloaded from the ITunes store with meta data populating all the fields (Show, Season, and Episode). Still no TV tab in the Video Viewer. Still no show.

BTW, I really appreciate the fact that people in the forum have worked so hard to try to find a solution. Still think this is a bug in Video Viewer.

Sounds like you have a different issue. What are your TV Show sync settings?

If set to sync unwatched episodes only played episodes will not sync to the iPad.

This has been driving me mad but the simple answer is to to into the Get Info button on each item and under the options tab, reclassify as movies.  The TV shows then appear.  Not elegant but it works.  (come on Apple, lets have a better solution)

....oh and add the episode number in the sort show field, then select to show that field and you can get everything in the right order.  Simon

Complete Edit: My TV shows still didn't appear on my new iPod Touch 5G, even though I already had a name in the field for Show on every one of them. I've finally isolated the problem. Just as suggested, filling out the Season number is also necessary (not the Episode #). As long as the Show (name) and Season Number fields are filled, the show will finally show up in the Videos app.

That's ******* stupid, now I have hundreds of TV shows to fix (new iPod Touch 5G).
