Two new iPhone 5pm Sprint network in Nashville Tn. Both lines have poor voice quality on both incoming and outgoing . Have not found any solutions in various threads on Internet. Have scheduled support call with Apple this morning and if resolution I will be returning both phones today. Could this be why Apple stocks down sharply and the IOS head was fired?

This thread is crazy and not one word from Apple (at least that I've seen).
In any event, it's been a couple of weeks since I received my replacement phone and I'm happy to say that things are going well (AT&T). I haven't had any dropped calls and for the most part the call quality has been good. I have had to say "can you hear me now" once or twice on the new phone, but that was the case with any phone I've had over the years, including my iPhone 4.
I'm able to have all features enabled (WiFi, Bluetooth, LTE, data, etc.) as on should be able to do. With the exception of a few personal software specific issues, I'm cautiously optimistic.
I wish all of you the best and hope that I'm not speaking too soon.

Cellular Data - OFF, Hearing Aid Mode- OFF, Enable LTE- OFF, Reset Network Setting, Restore - Any combination does not help. Exchanged iPhone 5 on first line three times and the second line two times – no difference in call quality.

ask them to hang on,
put the phone on loudspeaker,
press the power button twice to power off the iPhone,
and press it again to power iPhone back on.
Now chat to the other person.

A bit convoluted, but I've had some success with this.

Chatting to some colleagues (all iPhone 4S & 5 users) a picture is emerging. If the speaker is travelling by car and there is a high degree of background noise, the iPhone 5 seems to overcompensate on the noise cancelling. It's OK when there is little ambient or background noise for the speaker, which is why the problem seems to intermittent when tested in the Apple stores.
I've submitted a bug report to Apple, as suggested here earlier, and I suggest that everyone do the same.
This is a bit of a show-stopper for me, I'm afraid.

I am at wits end. Both my Iphone5 and my wife's Iphone5 have horrible voice quality. My phone has now been replaced twice and my wife's once. Bad quality persists. Apple senior tech points to the Verizon network as the culprit, Verizon points to Apple phone as the reason. In all fairness, Verizon has run 2 trouble tickets on my account and has not found anything. The one thing they have not tried is replacing the sim.
My question is, what is on the sim? Does it point my phone to a certain switch on the network? Could that be bad?

I just got a new sim. Verizon also just reset my account again. The volumn of the voice has gone up allowing me to turn down the volume on the phone. It sound a little better because of the lower volumn I believe. I am also getting 4 bars at home instead of two.
The drop outs in the voice remain. I'm losing sylables out of words. Also the "digital" sound remains. Sometimes it gets better, but not at all usable for me. I'm still asking people to repeat themselves. No, my hearing is just fine!
Worse yet, the replacement phone they gave me (refurbished) is now acting up. The bottom right portion of the screen is not very sensitive to touch commands and I'm getting verticle bars through the whole screen and then a reboot! After close to two months of this, I think I am done.

Not sure what to do. Does anyone know how long a thread needs to be before Apple recognizes it, looks into it or even acknowledges it?
It seems the worse qaulity happens from iPhone 5 to iPhone 5. What are my options, I dont want to go to Apple store and swith out, becuase it seems this will do nothing. Will they give me a refund? What have other people done?

If everyone that is experiencing the problem submits a bug report to the Apple developers, we're more likely to get a resolution than complaining about it here.
Stop complaining, and do something about it.

I can't speak for everyone hear, but I've been working with an apple senior engineer and upper level support at Verizon. Most of us have just not sat here and complained. We are actively trying to get through this problem. I believe it is good to report somewhere things that have been tried so we don't have to follow remedies that do not work. I've gotten some useful information here and have relayed it to both of the reps working with me.
A month and a half with this problem on both my wife's and my iPhone has been very trying especially when my phone is my business phone. I am actively trying to solve the problem ,whether it is the hardware or the network, with many support reps. I wouldn't characterize the reporting here as complaining.

Same problem here in Belgium with iphone 5.
Where I used to have perfect voice quality on my 4s I now have from time to time to cope with robots on the other side of the line, on rare ocasions it even drops calls.
I have good reception and am on 6.0.1
