@icloud.com addresses are being rolled out over an unspecified period: you will get one without having to do anything, and it will be additional to your @me.com address. You will get a notification email when your account is updated. Please see this page:

I understand what you're talking about.  @Roger, they've already started rolling out the iCloud email addresses to some of us.  Mine automatically showed up in my email prefences the other day and was working fine last night.  I called apple support about an unrelated issue, and got to talking about the new domain.  They're still not completely done working on the servers and working out all the kinks, so the service may be in and out for now.  That's why you haven't got an official email from apple yet about the new address.

    I read the HT5441.

It says for every email and alias that there will be an iCloud address.

Does that really mean that if I have a me.com, Mac.com, and 5 aliases that I will get 7 iCloud.com addresses?

Right now on my ID page I see only 1 iCloud.com address, and so far it does not work either when I send myself email.

If you have the five aliases brought over from MobileMe you will get six @icloud.com addresses - one for each alias and one for the main address which currently exists in @mac.com and @me.com versions. We don't know how long it's going to take to roll this out for everyone - they have to work through over 150 million accounts.

On my email preferences I have the @icloud.com address and all looks fine, but when somebody tries to send me an email it immediately bounces back as user unknown - odd - perhaps it will just take a bit fo time for my email address to update ?  - Any ideas

As I say, we don't know long all this will take. Just test it from time to time until it works.

And so the response is the same.

Has anyone had this resolved? The new icloud email I have for my old @mac.com address still gets bounce backs.

It's working for some and not for others: it's still in the process of being rolled out.

While I understand that icloud addresses are being "rolled out," it is unacceptable that the addresses would appear before they are able to be set up and used.  Hopefully Apple will 1) fix the problem, or 2) prevent users from enabling an email address that is not yet functional.  This is ridiculous.

I have the same problem. Mail to or from my iCloud address does not work. My .me and .mac address work fine. iCloud is listed on my apple ID page so it should be viable.

I called apple support. I was on the phone for 3 hours. They had me go through many iterations of sending and receiving, both from mail and the iCloud web site. I reset many things per their instructions. The problem was escalated at least 3 levels. They sent me a diagnostic app to run, save a report, and send it back. Said they would get back to me in about 3 days. That was 3 days ago. Still waiting.

Do those of you having problems also have the .mac and .me addresses? I think we could not even use iCloud itself as easily as those who were new to it. Perhaps this is part of the problem. Maybe you too should call apple support.

The process of rolling out the @icloud.com addresses to all accounts isn't yet complete. You should not expect it to work until you receive the confirmation email (though it may well actually work before then).
