The system probably thinks you are an entirely new person. That means you should go through the Profiles, preferences and notifications settings and re-do them in your new guise.

Thanks mate, this soved the problem.
I had to wait for about a day as there was a massive backlog of email waiting to be delivered, but once they cleared it has now stopped.
Maybe Apple should make this information clearer to find in our profile pages, or explain it better
