Q: iMessage on Mountain Lion does not send/recieve file transfers?

As the title says, iMessage on my MacBook Pro Retina with Mountain Lion will not accept file transfers nor will it send files. I currently have the same iMessage accounts set up on my iPhone and Mac so what's been happening is I'm talking to someone on the computer's iMessage and the whole conversation syncs back and forth with my iPhone, however when someone sends me a file, only the phone recieves it and NOT the computer.

What I've done to fix this so far:

-reinstall mountain lion, didn't fix it

-reinstall iOS on my iPhone, didnt fix it

-add and remove all iMessage accounts on both devices, didn't fix it

What do you guys recommend I do?

    Looks like no solutions

Ive tried remove plists, processes - and had no 100% result.

    For now trying:

    1/ Logout

2/ Login (sure, apple says - impossible to sign in)

3/ Logged in after 5 minutes - magic happens...

4/ Set using AppleID and phone numbers (both)

5/ And for now it magically works

Ive tried first just p.4 - but no success.

Hope it will be fixed! iMessages really great service.

I still have problem on 10.8.2.

May be because I use SLEEP MODE few times every day ?

Huh, still having the problem here, have tried all suggested fixes and... nada.

My test message has a few words, a smiley emoticon, and an address book entry-- fails every time.

Does anyone know if this is a known issue to Apple?  All the threads I've found are like this one: full of "worked for me"/"not for me" non-solutions...:(

Also Ralph, would you consider trimming your sig?  It's huge!

Thanks for any solid info folks!

    HI,

Have you tried it in stages ?

Text plus smiley or other pic

or Text plus Address Book card (file)

    Smaller pic in sig

    HI,

If the IMFileTransfer thing is working it is not seen in the Activity Monitor.

When you do send a file you will note that something starts up and disappears near the top of the list but not long enough to read it.

If it gets Stuck and seen in Activity Monitor then the File Transfer window normally says Waiting with the blue and white barber pole effect.

I have seen some that say "failed" as my Google attempts do at the moment.

The message about the "put Containers" is new to me.

That appears to be the person's telephone number and I can't say I have seen that either.

At present though, I have nothing new on this issue.

Everything worked fine for me after syncing to my Mac.

Messing around in the shell to fix something like this should not be necessary.

Also Ralph: please cut (as in remove) that sig, there's enough wasted space built into the page template.

    Hi,

    Previously you posted

Also Ralph, would you consider trimming your sig?  It's huge!

I did and I have since reduced the size of the Pic.

No one else is complaining so I shall put it down to personal preferences.

    However a variation.

Removing the library/pref files worked for me.  Not the PRAM reset.

    I'm losing my mind.

last night my Messages stopped SENDING images and files.  In file transfer it will say Tehe Operation Timed out while writing.

I LOOKS like its sending, and then after a few minutes a Red exclamation appears.

I m using mountain lion 10.8.3 as of tonight, was in 10.8.2 when it started.

    I have:  Deleted all message preferences as described in various parts of this forum with no success;

    Reset PRAM

Uninstalled Messages and reinstalled older version from Time Machine

    REINSTALLED MOUNTAIN LION...

CHecked the ACtivity monitor for that hangin imstransfers file, forcequit it a bunch of times, no success...

I just realized that turning messages offline and using a different account with AIM DOES work.

The puzzling thing is that using a different User I just created on this computer ALSO works perfecty signing in with my @me.com and iphone number.  Which leads me to think its a Message preference of some sort.  So i took all the preferences from new account and replaced my regular account but nothign happened.

    At a loss.
