iPhone 5 wifi issues

    For the money we all have spent and the 2 year deals we made with the Devil, we shouldn't have to have our fingers crossed. just sayin....

     

     

    So **** right... But what am I left to do? Besides not trusting in Apple devices again in the blind way I used to....

    The problem is the type of network; it isn't the brand of router. I can't even connect to my home network, which is made up of three  Apple Airport Exteme base stations and one Apple Airport Express.

    Unfortunately I am stuck.  We have an IT Department that has stated that in NO WAY will they alter the security parameters in place on our current router (Netgear).  It is out of my control - and I can't talk to Netgear about it. Our IT people said they will wait for Netgear to offer a resolution to allow iPhone 5's to connect to the router with the current settings in place.

     

    Oh well, at least I can connect to every other router on the planet.

    I think we should be a bit more critical and much more vocal. We definitely need to be less starry-eyed. I think you should find the middle ground for you or risk being taken for granted. People are ecstatic about an update that MAY fix a problem that Apple hasn't officially acknowledged yet. This is reminiscent of  Antennae gate, the disappearing media fiasco on the original Apple TV, the price drop issue with the original iPhone, the hundred and in some cases thousands of emails lost via MobileMe. We have to scream for an acknowledgement and beg for an apology. The acknowledgement is always late and the apology IF given is so sincere that it is made meaningless. Apple can be summed up in one word... Hubris..

    well, I did the iOS 6.0.1 update and my wifi problem remains. I have switched phones 3 times!!! each phone had the same problem, wifi speeds around 0.5 mbps.  This update did nothing to fix this.

     

    apple dropped the ball so badly.

    ****, I should have known this was too good to be true.  Earlier I posted that this update fixed my slow wifi issues...now not even half a day later I'm back down to slow as **** speeds.  So dissapointing apple...*sigh*

    I am on my second phone (my wife has a white iPhone 5 that doesn't seem to be as badly affected). Unfortunately, 6.0.1 doesn't seem to have helped.

     

    What's odd is that right after the update, my speed tests showed a HUGE improvement: I was geting 30+mbps up and down. But after 30 minutes when I tried it again, I was back to a max of 5mbps.

     

    A few other interesting tidbits:

     

    - On an unencrypted 2.4ghz connection (Airport Extreme latest gen) I get blazing fast speeds consistently.

     

    - On an encrypted 2.4gz, connection on my phone (black 32GB Verizon, week 37) is poor - range is bad, it halts and drops, and at best I might get 2-3mbps down. But on my wife's phone (white 32GB Verizon, week 37) she gets 8mbps consistently, range is better, and it doesn't seem to halt as much.

     

    - On an encrypted 5ghz connection (thankfully I can broadcast both with my Airport Extreme) I get blazing fast speeds consistently (30mbps+). Unfortunately, range is not nearly as good in our house and it doesn't reach to our nightstands, which means no iCloud backups at night

     

    I've also tried all different channels on 2.4gz and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I had really high hopes 6.0.1 would make a difference and it seemed to at first, but now I'm back to where I was before. Actually, I'm slightly worse because I just noticed today that the replacement iPhone Apple gave me has 2 ugly scratches on the side

    I bought an iphone 5 and i very much regret i did!!! Wi-fi doeast work where iphone 4 would work with no problem both at work and at home!! Either apple fixes this or lose a loyal custumer!!

    I guess I'm a little lucky in the fact that I have fast WiFi speed, but it drops the connection constantly and won't remember my password.  I just did the IOS 6.0.1 update to no avail.  This is very frustrating.  I have tried every fix.  I would return it for another phone, but I'm afraid I'll get one that has more issues than mine.  Come on Apple!!! Fix this!!!!!!

    Omg what the **** is wrong with apple they did not fixes anything. Wifi still not working what a pieces of ****. Apple you have lost me. After all of this with the iPhone 5. Now my iPad not working. Will never buy anything again made by you.

    I can confirm that iOS 6.0.1 does not help the WIFI issue with my iOS 6 (iPhone 5) device. I reckon some people had problem with the encrypted WIFI networks but although that might have been an issue with my devices (I had it replaced once), the problem is extremely slow (well below 3G network) download speeds on WIFI no matter the WIFI router (outside or at home, at home I even got a Apple AirMac Express since last report in this thread) or encryption, seemingly. Downloads just cut off halfway through.

     

    I have another problem where a dialog asking me to sign in to Sandbox iTunes App store pops up about 30 or 40 times, even if pressing cancel in all dialogs. It's also not fixed. It also appear on both iPhone 5 devices.

    I have a white AT&T 32g iPhone 5. Been having same problems with very slow connection to wifi networks that are secured with a password. I don't think the app I use is wrong but I use the speedtest.net app. On my iPhone 4S I was getting 5-7 Mbps. My roommate has a 4s also w AT&T and iOS 6 and gets the same 5-7mbps. With my iphone 5 I'm lucky if I get over 1mbps. Usually .5. I called apple and went to the Genius Bar they said it had to be my router. All I want to do is stream video from shotime. I was excited the update came out. I installed the update. But when I use the app to test my speed I don't see any improvements. But the weird thing is when I tried streaming video it worked. Could the app be wrong just with the iPhone 5?  Even tho it says I get 25+Mbps on lte and on unprotected wifi it's at usual speeds. I couldn't stream any video before the update. I hope it stays working. Either way this is crazy. I've been a very loyal iphone customer. I've had every iPhone since the first one. And I'm upset that I can't use my wifi. Apple needs to acknowledge this problem. When I talked to the genius guy he said didn't even know about it.

    6.0.1 hasn't helped my wifi issues nor the battery drain.

    Just tried streaming again and can't even get video to come up. This is so ridiculous. Now apple is just strait lying. It says that the update fixes this wifi issue but obviously it doesn't. I don't know why my phone streamed video earlier(I only tried for a couple min) who knows maybe it was using my lte even tho it was connected to wifi. Crazy tho. Nice apple just keep lying to us and giving us useless updates.

    Update from my same issue (refer to page 106):  Wifi connection at home is still not working.  I can "see" the network, but never connect to it.   I have 5 other devices working flawlessly with this same network, including 2 "old" Blackberries from AT&T, an iPad 2, and 2 other iPhone 5's on Verizon.  Took phone to Verizon and they swore it was my network/router.  Sorry, but I don't think so.

     

    I even tried all of the various settings on my router, removing ALL security (for testing only) and still couldn't connect on this one phone.  I did turn the security settings back on after testing.  So far, I have been able to connect to any other Wifi available, EXCEPT for my home network.

     

    However, the 6.0.1 update did seem to help the 3G drop outs I was having.  The phone would previously go from 3G to the circle icon quite frequently.  It's only been updated for about 30 minutes, so we will see.

     

    Just wish we could get this fixed.  I, too, am afraid to swap this phone in due to getting a replacement that may possibly be worse. 

     

    Hopefully, 6.1 will be more helpful.

     

    How long until 6.1 releases? Anyone?
