Try to update/login with your old info and see what happens.

Purchases made with one Apple ID are forever tied to that Apple ID. That includes the version of Mac OS X and the iLife apps that were pre-installed, and which became associated with your Apple ID. You will need to log in to the App Store with that older Apple ID. Go to the Store menu and choose Sign Out, then sign back in with the older Apple ID. Install the updates, then you can log out and log back in with your newer Apple ID.

I followed your instruction, signed out, then tried to sign in with old PW. No dice. Does not recognize it any longer . . . I am still able to sign in with the newer PW.

What happens when you try to update iPhoto?
Most likely when you deleted the old account you broke the connection between the MBP and the App Store. I don;t think there is anything anyone here can do to help. You will need to contact App Store support to see if they can get this working again.
You can try Contact Apple Support or else try 1-800-APL-CARE (800-275-2273)

When you say you tried to sign in with the "old PW," what do you mean? You need to use the old Apple ID, not just the old password. For example, if you had an old Apple ID with the address "email@example.com" and password "1234" and have a new Apple ID with the address "firstname.lastname@example.org" and password "5678", you would need to sign in using the old address and password.
If you actually contacted Apple and requested that they delete the old Apple ID, then you will simply have to re-purchase any software that was "owned" by that Apple ID.

Thanks to all who responded to my inquiry. I finally got the attention of the folks at iTunes and Miranda there provided me with the needed solution. It involved my redeeming supplied codes for the 3 iLife apps in the App Store and updating via that method. All is well now with huge thanks to the iTunes people.
