I'm on 10.6.8.

Out of the blue, Mail opens then gets hung up on the 2nd or 3rd email, then quits.

Did the old repair permissions. Nothing.

Thought it might be a piece of bad mail, but I have no problems or bad mail downloading on my other 2 macs.

Any ideas?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Start up Mail then go to the title bar at the top of the screen....click on Mailbox....scroll down to the bottom of the list and click on Rebuild.

    If that doesn't do it,

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, while booted up on your install disk for OS 10.6.8 and under. If you are running 10.7 or 10.8 run Disk Repair from Disk Utility on your Recovery System. It shows you how in the link.

You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.

You already did the Permissions thing....that is unlikely to help with this issue.

Did you do the Rebuild Mail routine?
