I used to use Airfoil and got away from it when I discovered Home Sharing my iTunes Library. The last time I used Airfoil, it still had a problem with periods where the music suddenly would sound like it was coming from an LP that had been sped up on the turntable and then was slowing back down. Sometimes this happened every 10 minutes or so; other times I might go an hour or more with normal flow (and pitch) of music. I did contact Rogue Amoeba's tech support and the issue was blamed on both my WiFi network and a bug in Airfoil.
I have kept Airfoil updated. Now I'm curious and will try it with iTunes 10.7 and iOS 6.0.1.
I updated to iOS 6.0.1 yesterday and opened the Music app on my iPhone 4 afterward. My (admittedly massive) library did finally load and artwork was correctly displayed for albums, etc. It was bedtime, so I didn't get to actually to see/hear if the streaming was actually working properly.
Tonight I hope to be pleasantly surprised that the Home Sharing bug is fixed when I have some down time to play with it.
Home Sharing is doing better since the 6.0.1 update on my iPhone 4. However, I'm still seeing randomly incorrect artwork associated with albums. Took a bunch of screenshots to show to a Genius. Still loads much more slowly than in iOS 5.1.1.
Anyone else still seeing quirks with iOS Music app and Home Sharing? What are they?
I have multiple Idevices, and home sharing will not work on the two with Ios 6.0(iphone 4) and 6.01(iphone 5). I am running Itunes version 10.7.0.21 on my main windows 7 computer and Itunes version 10.6.3.25 on my secondary Windows 7 computer. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both my entire library and itunes itself. I have 3GS that i use as an Itouch running Ios 5.1.1 and it accesses both home sharing libraries. I have an Ipad 2 running 5.0.1 and it accesses both home sharing libraries. My apple TV is running version 5.0 and it accesses both home sharing libraries, but it wants to update. I am not willing to update it only to not be able to access home sharing on it. Both the iphone 4 and 5 will not load the library at all, all i get iis a half shaded circle, then it stops. This blows!
Respectfully, that's is your choice. I would always rather have a native App or one that's free. However, Home Sharing is broken and I'm enjoying music and video streaming for just $2.99. I will not go back, all being equal, even when they finally get around to fixing it. It's a choice, that's all it is and I respect your position.
As I respect yours. I'm just annoyed that apple appears to be ignoring this problem. VW ignored the fact that they had built shoddy transaxels and electrical systems into their cars over the last 10+ years - now I drive a Toyota.
Apple must remember that customer satisfaction is what drives customer loyalty.
I have bought a new iPad at each update point. But this time ........
marshgre, you may wish to view my thread " iOS 6 and Home Sharing on iPad 3 wi fi finally working kinda ..." . This one has received much more activity for some reason and you may wish to see others that share your opinion regarding customer loyalties. I even ranted and opined from time to time, just to get my frustrations off my chest. If you do decide to visit, sit back an enjoy our craziness and spouting.
I'm having problems with my iPad 3 w/ iOS 6.0.1 and iTunes 10.7 on OSX 10.6.8. The Sharing option does not show up under the Music app and "more", but it is turned on with iTunes and I am logged in on the iPad. I have tried logging out and logging back in under the ipad music settings as well as closing and restarting iTunes.
In the meantime, I am using AirPlayIt to successfully stream music and video on my home network. There is an optoin to connect via internet IP address, but have not done so successfully yet. It's FREE on the App Store & and free downlown for Mac or Windows. There is also an Android app, but have not gotten it to work.
Here is my observation,
with an iphone 4GS, running ios 5.0.1 and itunes 10.7 on windows 7, I had numerous problems with homesharing as most ones here had.
I have tried many things, such as:
- disabling firewall on both router, and PC,
- playing a song continusly in itunes so that it won't drop out the connection,
- turning on an off home sharing...
After any of these fixes, homesharing worked for a while, say a couple of hours, or minutes, and dropped out the connection.
Then, I thought I had enough trouble with this, and tried a different route. Enabled wireless sync on iphone, and when I want to listen to an album on the iphone at home, I wirelessly copied the album to the phone.
And my problems still continued, this time wireless sync most often interrupted, (sometimes itunes gave an error message such as "iphone sync cannot be completed because iphone cannot be found".
Anyway, after this, I thought that the router I was using might be the problem.
I were using wifi a router called Netmaster CBV-7000, which is supplied by my internet provider.
I also had an Airties RT-205 wireless router, which I don't use.
What I did is:
- I disabled the wifi on netmaster router,
- connected Airties router as an access point to the netmaster via ethernet cable.
So, after this setup, wifi devices at home would use the Airties instead of netmaster router.
And for the last two days, home sharing works perfectly.
No drop out, no hidden "shared" tab, and also no wireless sync problems either...
I guess some routers may be incompatible with the home sharing mechanism...
But still, I can remember people who had problems also with Apple routers. Yet, I don't have an explanation for that problems...
I hope this helps someone to sort out some problems...
I'd been having this problem with my iPad 3 trying to connect to my iTunes shared library on my Mac...would stop half way trying to access. I also had troubles connecting to the iTunes store for updates. Read this:
...and it fixed the problems. It appears at least in my case to be a network error. In iOS6, goto settings > general > reset > reset network settings. Restart the device and try again.
