I too am still getting horrible battery life since the update. Two of my co workers are not experiencing the problem I am. When we went to do the upgrade, I received a 'minus 1' error which I'm told is related to the hardware. Am sending the phone back. You should probably do the same.

Sounds like we got a couple of lemons.

How did you do the update?  Did you connect to iTunes and do the update there?  Or OTA?

I'm on my 3rd one and they've all had bad battery life.  I exchanged the first two for other reasons but all three have had fast battery drainage.  I really believe it has something to do with iCloud but I don't really want to turn it off.

After the update I had a 40 minute voice call and the phone dropped 4-5%. I was thinking issues solved.

But alas, after that its been pretty much the same drain. 90 minutes of use. 33% drained. Maybe a pinch better?  But still won't get close to advertised usage at work.

Still think its signal. At home I get much better life.

I didn't see a significant improvement on my battery life last night either. Listend to an "Audible" book for about ten minutes, lost fifteen percent battery doing that. I'm still losing more than I should on standby too. My iphone 4 lost almost nothing when on standby, not ever. I'm not seeing this as a multifunctional device given the circumstances. The update didn't specifically say it was going to address the battery issues, but I know everyone hoped that this would be a solution. So far it's not.

Darkfire, I had excellent signal strength last night and some others have said they always had great signal but, still had the battery drain issue. I don't think we have a concrete answer about it and I don't think Apple does either.

What's weird is that it works fine for other iPhone 5 customers.  That you got three phones that behave like this - yikes.  I wonder - have you wiped your phone, and restored only say, e-mail, safari and texts just to see if it is one of the applications that might be constantly running in the background?  I only suggest this because it makes sense; however, on the down side, I did try this, and it didn't help.  But it might with your issue.

I've tried everything except deleting my iCloud account.  My friend who doesn't have battery issues doesn't use iCloud and I've read in other threads that deleting iCloud fixes the issue, but I use it too much to delete it.  I'm just hoping that is the issue and they fix it soon.

I put my phone in DFU mode and did a restore and it works fine now. The battery lasts at least as long as my iPhone 4. So I did the same thing to my Wife and my Mother's iPhone 5's. They both are working fine now with normal battery life. As it said on another thread it appears to be a bad image from the factory. I did exactly what t.katz said below. Has fixed three phones so far.

    Hey Blackout,

What I did was forced a backup through iTunes (connected via the usb cable), and then put the phone into DFU mode and did a restore.  Then I went through the usual iTunes process to restore my backup to the phone.  Doing the restore via iCloud should work as well, I just find it much faster to restore via the iTunes backup then over WiFi.  I like to keep local backups in iTunes anyway..

I don't know if entering DFU mode vs just doing a straight restore actually makes a difference, its just something I got used to do doing.  Whenever it seemed like my phones battery was draining fast, or things were acting weird I would always DFU restore and that would seem to make the issues go away.  It could simply be psychological giving the feeling of doing a "format + install" vs simply a "reinstall" type thing, I have no idea at this point

As for entering DFU mode, I'm not sure if thats something Apple likes discussed on these forums?   Just incase, if you do a google search... oh, say perhaps "iphone restore dfu", you might just find your answer in the first result (iClarified).

    Hope this helps.

I did the DFU restore on the first two I had and it didn't help.  I've tried everything possible, I've got 2 hours usage time and 13 hours standby and I'm at 40% battery life.  That's not good.

I'm sorry to hear it didn't work for you. Not sure why it would work on one and not another. I have 1hr 31min of usage playing a game. and 6h 57 standby and I'm at 73%.

Other people are posting screenshots getting 10 hours usage and almost 2 days standby.  I have no idea how they're getting those numbers.

A month ago i posted how i resolved most of my battery issues with a restore by deleting the ios 6 download on my mac and re-downloading it while restoring my iphone 5. Now after ios 6.0.1 my iP5 has gotten even better.  The main trick has been keeping LTE turned off almost all the time when im not near a good signal, and keeping bluetooth off when i dont need it. LTE has been more reliable too after 6.0.1.

After 50% of battery used i have 3hours and 45 minutes of usage and 9 hours and 29 minutes of standby.

Some people said turning the phone off overnight fixed the problem so I'm gonna try that tonight.  I don't see why that would fix it but its worth a try.
