Q: After running disk utility and typing reboot the computer does not reboot but asks for a root #, now what?

After running disk utility I type in reboot and it asks for a root #. now what? Suddenly (well as sudden as things happen when you let your kids use your computer) the computer was freezing and running VERY slow. Plenty of space.

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Many details missing. AFAIK, there's nothing in the DU GUI that allows typing in reboot. If you did this via the Terminal.app, post the details.

We can not get to the desktop, therfor no terminal.app.

I also was in single user mode if that helps.

Thanks for clarifying. While in single-user mode, you're basically using the command line interface (Terminal is just the GUI'd version), but logged in as root. That changes the prompt to #.
