Q: iBook G4 won't switch on

My iBook G4 has suddenly stopped working and won't switch on at all (i.e when the power button is pressed, no sound, screen stays dark, nothing happens).

The only thing I've noticed is when connected to mains, the light on the power cable stays orange and the battery area keeps getting warm.

If I take out the battery and connect to mains, the light on the power cable stays green.

I have tried resetting the PMU by following the instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1431#faq6 without any luck.

Any suggestions?

    Hello,

Have you tried another power adapter?

I've known adapters to glow, but not turn on the computer.

If it's getting warm, then I would be concerned about the possibilities being the DC inboard, however would advise checking the power supply first.

    Best of luck

Thanks but I don't have another power adapter.

But as I said, with the battery in, the cable glows amber/orange and without it, it glows green.

Also noticed nothing happens when I press the button on the battery (which I assume is meant to show the level of charge?)

If you press the button on the battery and no lights shows, then it would indicate the battery is dead.

The cable will glow orange while the battery is present as its charging the battery(or trying to)

If there is no battery to charge or the battery is fully charged then the light glows green.

Yes but even without the battery and while plugged in to mains it won't switch on.
