    Hi Lawrence

Regarding your explanation of what is in Other, it appears to me that this is not entirely correct. In Settings/General/Usage, and under Storage, at the top of this section, you have GB Available and GB Used. If I tally all Bytes used for each app, then I take that tally and subtract it from my GB Used, I get the size of my Other. Now, click on any app, such as Facebook, a new window appears and this tells me the app size and the apps Documents and Data size. Add these two figures together and you get the number back in the Storage window. This tells me that, for at least Facebook, the Other data does not contain my Facebook data. This is also true for my mail app, Good for Enterprise. So I don't think it's as cut and dry as you are specifying.

I believe one major component of Other is that it is a depository for "left" data from poorly written apps that do not clear their data or cache correctly, given several different operations like delete, move, free, .... Whatever.

I doubt any of us will have an official answer any time soon.

Regarding erasing data, from page 9, I did a full DFU restore of an iPad, Afterwhich I was able to get onto our company's secured wifi LAN, without any credentials. This was about three weeks ago. This iPad to date has not had to log in to the wireless network, and never has. This tells me that iOS restores are glitchy and can leave data behind. It certainly doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy about DFU restoring.

Amazing! Worked for me, 2.4GB Other -> 0.21GB Other. It's a lot of space on my 16GB iPhone, anyway thanks again

Actually this finally worked for me!  I didn't turn the phone on & off right after I deleted the music at first.  But now I'm down to .23 GB as well

I take that back.  I did get down to 0.23 GB after doing the trick Acqua recommended and at first it appeared I still had all my music in tact.  When I went today to play an album I selected the first track of the album and it skipped immediatley down to track 5.  After that it did a similar action down to the last track of the album so in reality there was 2 of the 12 tracks playable.  So it appears this trick corrups your music.  I did the "delete all trick" once more today to confirm and I got the same results.  Looks like I'm back to living with the 4 GB of "other" data...

Sync the iPhone again. I bet you will keep a meager "Other" and be able to enjoy all your music.

I did a regular sync both times after I did your procedure and it didn't fix the problem.  This is on an iPhone 5

Save yourself some time/trouble.  This whole this about removing the music, etc.  It is BOGUS.

It works... it drops your other data to very small levels.

But your music is screwed up!

Anybody who doesn't think their music is screwed up... just hasn't played all their music on their phone to find which songs are screwed up.  Some albums play, some don't.  Resyncing the music doesn't work. It skips randomly just like a zillion people have said.

It totally screwed up my phone and it was a total Bit&h trying to restore the music to be functional again.

    Don't do it!

All you have to do is resync your music again. Then it should stay at low levels of other. Unfortunately, it worked for me. My music was working fine and everything.. A week later. The 1GB of other appears again..

I guess it's the curse of OTHER. I'll try it again I guess.

I have 45.4Gb of the Cursed "Other" which just refuses to budge. Any help with removing this correctly/identifying what this is?

Nothing has completely removed the other junk, not even reinstalling everything.

But I did notice that every time I updated apps through iTunes, the other grew a little bit.

Same if I deleted apps directly from the iPhone/iPad.

    Getting sick of Apple.

Few months back, my Imac developed a problem with its Mic.  No-one could tell me what it was.  The only answer was 'get a new motherboard'.

So, instead I got a new Imac.  A few months ago.  A few days ago, garageband developed a problem, which again cant be answered by anyone.  Months of work lost and corrupted.  Not to mention Imovie which has sync issues, which cant be solved by anoyone.

    No customer support, no answer.

Now, my shiny new Iphone has developed this problem, which nothing above has fixed.  Apple have no clue what it could be.

My android never did this.  And at least with a PC you have a chance to get things fixed.

This little bubble we live in used to be so efficent.  Now its falling apart.  Bad business, Apple.  You havent got a clue, have you?
