I did Michaels method, dragging the folders from Outlook in to a folder so an mbox file was created. But when importing in to Mail I would say 70% of my 30 000+ emails was corrupted, no subject or sender info, and the error message "this message is in mime format...". After some days with try and fail I purchased the software called Emailchemy which allows you to convert a .olm file to several options including Mail 2.x - 6.x. I did that and then imported the folders and all the mails was now 100%. it was simply a mather of creating folders in Mail with the same name and drag and drop my emails in to new Mail folders.

In my case I have emails saved from my PC days years back, not only Outlook for Mac, so for me there just wasn't any other way for me to keep all my mails saved but to do this option. If you have tried all other options I can highly recommend this software. It did the trick for me.

    Good luck! :-)

Has anybody tried to import RULES from Outlook 2011 to Mac Mail for 10.6.8?

Is there any possible way to do this?

Is notes only in OS Mountain Lion. I have Snow Leapord and don't see notes.

Thank you. I never had a problem with this, because I used synch services in Outlook, so that my notes synched across to apple notes.

    1. Open Outlook
    2. Click on Outlook, top menu bar
    3. Select preferences
    4. Select Synch Services
    5. Make sure Notes is ticked
    6. And let the synch run
    7. Your notes should go across to apple notes.
    8. After completed, untick notes and prevent from further synching

    Hope that works for you.

    Great info here. Thx

    Hi -

I've been reading this thread about moving from Outlook for Mac to Apple Mail and came across your video and slides.  I did a transfer and it worked!

My ultimate goal is to move my entire set of Outlook email folders on my Mac to Apple iCloud so that I can look at any email, be it new or saved, from any device.  As a result, and for those others that are interested, I just wanted to let you know that I didn't need to go through an Apple Mail import of an mbox file to do this.  I just moved each folder (including subfolders in one full swoop) in Outlook from On My Mac to my Mac IMAP email account, also in Outlook.  I've already transfered 1000's of emails in 10's of folders and it's working effortlessly.

Hope that the above is clear.

@D.O thank you for your question. I no longer use Outlook so things may have changed since I used it last. The easiest way that I remember is to synch your outlook contacts with apple contacts, there are some settings in outlook that will allow you to do this. that way they will all come across in one go. but then you switch off the synching and use the apple contacts from there on in.

I found this detailed tutorial, but please be careful with this whole process, as I ended up with a lot of duplicates.

Hi I've been trying for the past couple hours to move back to snow leopard and move my mails from outlook to apple mail

    I've figured a simple process

This is what seems to be working

I created subfolders in my outlook ie separated my mails in 6 month segments

Then dragged the folder to desktop

It looks like the machine stalls but it actually creates a mbox file on the desktop which can be easily imported into apple mail

I tries this with a small folder and it worked

    I'm transferring the rest now

I am having trouble transferring email from Mac Outlook 2001 to Mac Mail 4.6.

I created a folder on the desktop and dragged subfolders of Outlook email to it, which were converted to .mbox subfolders. When I import in Mac Mail the messages get transferred but many with attachments are not transferred properly. For examples if they had photo attachments the attachments don't come through and instead there is whole lot of garbage text in the main body of the transferred mail.

Grateful if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks.

    Hi imac2

Its been a while since I've done this and there have been many updates to Office and Apple OSX.

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that you are using the latest version of Outlook, check for updates.

Apart from that I am unable to offer any solutions. At the time I did this all attachments came across fine.

Sorry if that wasn't any help to you?

    Cheers

    Thanks for your reply.

My original emails are in Windows Outlook. So I imported the .pst files saved from Windows into Mac Outlook and then tried to transfer to Mac Mail as decribed in my earlier post.

Today I tried using Thunderbird in Windows. Imported my mail from Windows Outlook into Windows Thunderbird and then imported to Mac Mail. This time the attachments that I was having trouble with came through fine. However, in some emails I noticed that the email address in the cc list were messed up. The outcome is better than the first method since the attachments seem to have come through.

Ideally, would like to find a reliable way to import the windows outlook .pst files directly into Mac Mail. May have to resort to non-free third party software.

    Any suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Michael.  Could I ask you some questions about going from Outlook for Mac to Mail?

  • stayingaliveuk Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Sure ask away. However please note that I did this procedure some time ago now, I no longer have Outlook on my machine, and there have been updates to office and osx since then. It may be that I can't answer your question as I can no longer do any testing myself. I know this probably not much help to you. Success!
