Hi,

I am experiencing constant crashing on my MacBook Pro 15" from 2010. When it occured the first time, I was encoding a MKV file with Xilosoft, and copying files to my NAS at the same time over wireless. I was awway from the machine and wwhen I came back, it had restarted and froze. Now it crashes and restarts constantly. If it is off, for a ling time, I can get to login, but within a minute or two, it crashes and restarts.

With that info, it could be related to a cpu fan or something. I was able to get a report after getting to login wwith enough time to send the report via mail. I will paste the report below.

I bought this MacBook Pro in the US, but I live in Denmark. We only have a reseller here, and I will hope that they can solve this, if I cannot resolve this myself. If I could get a clear message about the hardware that is malfunctioning, I can replace it myself.

More info, i have installed my own SSD drive and have Mountain Lion installed on it. I tried placing the original HDD I have with Lion installed. It does not change anything, as far as I can tell.

I have tried to boot up on an install DVD, but it still crashes. I have not successfully found out howw to start in Safe mode. I do not knoww how to do that. The shift button does not seem to do anythng during boot. Option during boot gets me to the Boot menu, wwhere I have HDD, Recovery, or DVD.

Thanks in advance for any help on this issue,

Rick

    This is not true:

Interval Since Last Panic Report:  589711 sec

    Panics Since Last Report:          3

This is constantly rebooting. It rebooted 20 times, before I let it rest. Then I could get in and get the report before it crashed.

  • 3. Re: Processor context corrupt

The two fans do turn on and are working.

I found the hardware test on the second disk that came with my Macbook Pro. Holding the D key down during boot now loads the hardware test. I did an extended test and there were no errors.

As I said already, if it is off for a long period of time, it can get into the login for a while before crash.

I have an external laptop fan, and if I use this I am able to log in for a long time (was in for over an hour before crashing.

If this is heat related, could it is be that the heat sinks are not having a good connection to the CPU and graphic chip? I will try to follow a guide I have for putting new paste on.

Since no one is replying, I am using this as a journal, which may help others

    I'm reading

Well, I'm having also THAT problem... or I think I still have it. My MacBook Pro 2011 15" with OS X 10.6 crashes, it first started with the screen going to black, then black and white stripes appeared and the music that was playng also got stuck...  in a pretty horrible way. Now it goes to black and then the screen "comes back" but it's all messed up, cut up. After this happened 3 times a message appeared and told me that I should turn off my computer and start it up again... and so I did, as I already had done before without the message.

After restart the Kernel Panic window came up. By this moment I had already erased my hard drive and re-installed OS X 10.6, all software was new, it didn't make sense! this happened before and after!! The only thing that I cant tell is crashing too is Skype... but I dont think it's related. I did a NVRAM reset (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379) I did it like 45 minutes ago... so I'm waiting to see what happens, and looking out for some explenation.

Anyway I just wanted you to know that there's someone out there who is going through the same thing and that she's reading you.

Good look, I'll let you know if I failed or succeeded.

Sorry to hear you are experiencing the same problem.

I can give a little more info about what I have tried. I have tried another HDD, booting on USB, and booting on CD. Crashes continue. I have tried other RAM as well.

I have followed a guide on iFixit to remove the logic board and heat sink. I put new thermal paste on the CPU and GPU. The problem continues.

I can start up and browse for about an hour if it has been off for hours. When it crashes, it continues to crash until it gets rest.

I have installed fan control and can see that it even crashes when the temp is under 40 C.

I set the fans to run at 4000 RPM. No help.

    Hardware test showed no errors.

I am trying to get the firmware to be installed again, but this is very difficult.

My last ditch effort, once the firmware gets installed again, will be to remove the logic board and place it in the oven for a short perion of time. There has been some success doing this.

However, I feel that it may be in the L2 cashe within the CPU.

I will try to have it repared by a company in Manhatten. They can remove the CPU and maybe replace it.

    Hope this info helps you.

    Regards,
    Rick

correction - Bad cache, cache-to memory sync, so bad processor or mem controller

  • 8. Re: Processor context corrupt
    rick5505 Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

Thanks for the reply. Is the mem controller within the CPU or is that seperate?

I realize a new logic board will take care of the problem, most likely. However, could the CPU be replaced by a company who repairs the board?

It really is sad that I spent so much for this laptop and it breaks internally only after 16 months.

    Thanks,
    Rick

CPU is soldered to mainboard, so this is mainboard change anyway. As far as I know it is internal CPU cache memory problems.
