Nov 5, 2012 11:28 PM in response to Lindhardsenby RRFS,About the only way is to hookup an USB keyboard. Then later on it will recognize the keyboard in System Preferences.

Nov 6, 2012 1:21 AM in response to RRFSby Lindhardsen,I just does not accept that it should be nessecarry to use a usb keyboard when buying a brand new mac!
And luckily I managed to solve this in the end
My setup was is with a keyboard that was previously paired worth my MBP, and I tried a lot of things, but what did it in the end was this:
- First I unpaired the keyboard from the MBP using http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1809?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US. Only, this time I ignored the first step which reads: "Press and release the On/Off switch on the wireless keyboard to turn it off." Thinking of it, how would the the keyboard know that it is unpaired, if it is turned off?
- The 2 thing I did differently this time was that I did not power on the keyboard until it actually said so on the screen. This means that I powered on the Mini, waited until I had selected the language using the Trackpad, waited until the "Connect Keyboard" dialog appeared on the screen. Then I turned on the keyboard in pairing mode...
That's basically what I did to be successful! Hope it will help somebody else

Nov 6, 2012 1:37 AM in response to mpsmoodby Joe Z in VA,Correct. You can not use two devices on the same keyboard connected. You have to unpair or disable the bluetooth feature of the MBP before pairing to a new device.
The same can be said about the touchpad and your bluetooth devices that you want to pair with other receivers like the Mac Mini or the iPad or iPhone. You have to remove the bluetooth pairing from the master then pair it with it's new master.

Dec 25, 2012 8:32 PM in response to mpsmoodby ronnieraiz,Any updates to this??? My wife bought me the Mini for Christmas and no problem connecting mouse but with keyboard I get that it is found and I get code but no little blue "enter" button on screen. So I type in code and press Enter on keyboard and it cycles and code just pops up again. Keep re-entering w/ same result. Never gets past that. This is ridiculous that I would have to hook up a USB keyboard...whatever the glitch it should be fixed. Unreal...thought Mac was supposed to be user friendly!!

Jan 3, 2013 7:23 AM in response to ronnieraizby CFDinux,I just experienced the same problem. My problem could have been due to the fact that I used my new keyboard with my ipad (to check it out) before settingup the mac mini. Good thing I had a wireless Logitech keyboard lying around that I previously used with my Wii. I plugged in the USB cable of the wireless receiver, booted up the mac mini, and set-up process recognized the Logitech keyboard. Once I was done setting up the mac mini, I went to settings and added the apple wireless keyboard, which finally worked at that point. I would expect a better set-up process from an apple product.

Jan 8, 2013 10:50 AM in response to mpsmoodby InvulgoSoft,I just bought myself a mac-mini, and of course had the excact same problem as you guys.
Mouse was no problem, but the wireless keyboard was very tricky. I did manage to get it working however. It seems that it is important to take the batteries out and put them back in, then turn on the keyboard while the mac starts up. At least this seemed to be the solution for me. Apparently the keyboard has problems if it has already been paired to another mac.
So, if you're like me and have no USB keyboard - it is possible to get it working.
Hope this helps!

Apr 19, 2013 8:51 AM in response to mpsmoodby Chris AK,★HelpfulJust in case anyone else has a similar probelm... I bought a used mac mini and did not get any kind of keyboard or mouse setup dialogue during the first boot setup. Luckily I had a USB mouse handy. If you don't get any option to pair a keyboard, click through the setup until you get to the "Create Your Computer Account" screen, right click in any of the text fields and select Substitutions --> Show Substitutions. From there click on text preferences. The preferences pane will popup and from there you can just click the back button (next to show all) to get to the full preferences menu. Next click on keyboard, then select setup bluetooth keyboard and you're golden. Saved me a trip to best buy for a keyboard I'd likely never use again.

Jul 28, 2013 6:10 PM in response to Chris AKby BasmantarD,This absolutely worked thanks so much Chris. This is specifically for people who are using a brand new installation of a mac mini and dont have a USB keyboard handy. The one thing i would add for the simple people is that I had to click several times with my track pad or mouse to be able to get the set up to "skip" the bluetooth keyboard setup section and proceed to the next step. I clicked on the little arrow in the picture pointing to the pair button of the bluetooth keyboard that wont connect. I am using a Logitech K811 mac bluetooth keyboard. Everything else worked like a charm but I had to actively click around (not sure if it matters where) to get it to realize it was missing something and needed to proceed.
