Hi all,

Have a table that is full of cells with ALL CAP sentences, and some with all lower case sentences.

I wish to select the problem cells, then convert them all to sentence case (first letter of first word capitalized).

What's the quickest / best way to go about this?

Already have a Text Service installed that enables similar, however it doesn't work across multiple cells; have to manually edit each cell and it is very tedious (have many cells).

Any other way?

I think I would perform a search an replace on ".  a" with ".  A" and repeat for each letter  OR...

If you copy the text into a text editor  that supports regular expressions you could perform a single search replace operation that will capture the combinations of punctuation, white space following the punctuation and first lett of the sentences.

    Casemon,

    How many sentences per cell?

I was going to recommend that you use Devon Wordservice and do one cell at a time. However in testing I found that Wordservice doesn't capitalize the first word after a question mark when you selecgt Initial Words of a Sentence. You could use a combination of substitution and Wordservice if you don't need a comprehensive soltion.

    Casemon,

If you have Pages and Devon Wordservice, you can probably:

    • Copy your table in Numbers
    • Paste it into a (blank) Pages wordprocessing document
    • Menu > Format > Table > Convert Table to Text
    • Select all the text and apply Wordservices "Initial Caps of Sentences"
    • Menu > Format > Table > Convert Text to Table
    • Copy the table
    • Paste it back into the Numbers table

That seemed to work for me, at least with the single column table I tried.

    Jeff,

Not that it's necessarily a deal breaker for the OP, Wordservice doesn't consider question marks to be sentence terminators in Pages either.

    Jerry,

Valid point, but at least in Pages, while it's all one block of text you can, for example, use Find… to replace all the "?" with "?." and then change the sentence case, then reverse the Find…replace to return to question marks.

    (If it is an issue.)

    Jeff
