Nov 6, 2012 3:44 AM in response to detour12by Knucklesmac,Hello,
I think we have already established that your iBook is suffering from a problem with the graphic processor.
All of what you have described to me relates to the same symptoms I got with one of my iBooks which suffered the same problem. The problem relates to long term cooling and heating of the graphics processor, that making the processor chip become unsolder from the logic board. You will find that if you apply pressure to the right side of the tracker pad or under the boot right, the iBook will work fine. This is due to the contacts being made by the graphics chip to the logic board.
You can get this re-soldered by a professional, but the cost is very expensive and to be honest, not worth it.
Your only other alternative is to replace the logic board. That is expensive too and to be honest, it's an old G3, your better of buying another working one on eBay.
Some people have successfully added a 'shim' to the chip. By adding a thicker later above the chip and between the case. Forcing the chip closer to the logic board. It's not a guaranteed long term fix, but enough to backup the iBook.
