We are experiencing the same problem.  We created a project on our hard drive in 10.0.5 and were able to duplicate it onto a g-drive so that another person on our team could work on it at home.  It worked fine.  We upgraded to 10.0.6 and continued to work on the same project.  However, we are no longer able to duplicate the project.  If we duplicate and put it on the g-drive, as soon as we detach the g-drive from the desk top and go to another desk top, the project can not find the reference files.  We have also tried to save all events, pictures, etc. to the g-drive and final cut is still having problems.

Does the original project contain the media in the Original Media folder or does it contain aliases that point to referenced media? If so the media will not be duplicated only the aliases. If you want to duplicate the media as well in this instance, you have to go to the project and the event on the G-Drive while it's still connected to the referenced media and use the Organize Media function.

Yes, it can be done like you say Tom. But this process now requires 3 or 4 more clicks than in 10.0.5. That is a set-back and it is not very intuitive.. Nevertheless, I love 10.0.6 for all the cool new features.

I don't know if this was an intentional change or not.

This is definitely a negative of 10.0.6.  Under all previous versions, we could duplicate a project to an external drive and if we choose to include all used clips, they would all be copied into the events folder on the new drive even if they were originally located in a few different places on the original drive.  Now they are only copied as reference files so once you take the new external drive with you, you no longer have the media to edit.  NOT GOOD.  I cannot see any upside to this change at all.   It's painful to find and copy all the original files to the new drive.  If I try to consolidate first, it tells me there is nothing to do because all my media is in the same spot.  I am travelling this weekend with my laptop and have no easy way of working on projects that currently exist on my desktop computer.  Bummer.

    Hi.

I'm stuck with the same problem. And i also need a quick solution. At the moment i'm not able to transport actual projects and i'm no able to archive older projects.

The actual version makes me want to tear my hair out.

What intentional could it be, when the duplicat function deosn't duplicate? ...Making life harder?

Yes, it takes a few more clicks, but it is quite possible.

After copying the project and related events, you need to "Organize Event Files".

    Don't worry, Nexus7.

    1) Duplicate Project with either referenced events or used clips only (this latter option creates a new event with all the media from the selected project.) Make sure that your desired target drive is selected.

    2) Then Organize Event Files. (Make sure that the newly created event(s) are highlighted when you Organize Event Files.

To check if you have everything on the new location:

Quit FCPX and eject all other drives other than the one that you want to back up to. Open FCPX. If something is offline then push the 'modify event references' in the inspector while your project is highlighted in the project library. If files are still offline then relink to the newly created event's original media folder.

Let med know if this works.

    Best, Mikael

    Hi mikaelfromsmørum.

Yes, it fixes the problem, if i do "reconnect media" as last step on the new machine.

That's a kind of counterproductive and nonintuitive way... Unbelievable!

    It's like Windows 3.1.

    I've fired a bugreport too.

Better you fire more than one bugreport to get their audience.

Will this solve your problem, vision2video?

    Follow these steps:

It's clearly a bug, but I think this will help you untill they fix it or make the process more intuitive in a future update.

    Best, Mikael

    It is definitely a bug.

It doesn't work like in the manual. And it's illogical by far.

    • Copy the project: You can duplicate the project and put the copy in a new location. When you copy a project, you can copy all of the events used in the project, all of the clips used in the project, or just the project.

    In addition:

The "Move Project" Function is also affected by this bug.
