I did notify apple through a bug notification form.  I got the link from another apple support forum for this same issue.  The other forum had commented that the fix prob wont be out until update to iOS 6.0.1 is available.  I checked my phone last night under settings, general, software update, and the update to iOS 6.0.1 is available now.  I did the update and haven't had any more problems......so far anyway!

I checked the bug in 6.0.1 and it isn't fixed

It appears to only happen if you stop the playback of the podcast by unplugging headphones, or disconnecting a bluetooth device you are streaming to, and then triggering it.

There are several ways to trigger this undesired behavior.

Here are the ones I have found so far:

Hang up on a phone call

    Ending a conversation with Siri

Acknowledgeing a count-down timer from the clock app

I believe I also triggered it by declining a phone call, but I may be mistaken on that one.

I'm sure there are more. They all seem to be related to another app playing a sound.

I was not able to trigger this behavior by receiving a iMessage with an alert tone, so it doesn't seem to be all sounds. I'm also not sure how have the phone switched to silent mode affects to behavior.

I have an iPhone 5 running iOS 6.0.1

An update for the Podcast app just showed up!  Looks like the issue is fixed for me!

I have also updated the podcast app and have not been able to force it to act up... yet.  As bad as this app has been I don't exactly trust it.

In other news one of the other items was something about it addressing old deleted podcasts being marked as new again...  if by address the mean make it occur on 2 podcasts as soon as the update installs, then yes it has addressed it.

I just got the update, hopefully this fixes the issue for me as well... especially since I use Google Voice and prefer to answer my land line (which means no matter where my iPhone is, it starts playing a podcast every time someone calls me).

Installed the update and unfortunately still yet hasn't fixed the problem!

The update didn't fix it for me, either!

Me either. I actually just experienced this for the first time. I'm running iOS 6.0.2 (10A551) and I have the latest version of the Podcast app (downloaded last night).

I was playing a video podcast (Mad Money episode from Dec 21, 2012) and simply hit the home button (while still playing) to do other things. The podcast stopped and I ended up putting my phone to sleep, but when I received a phone call later on.... and muted it by pressing the volume button (never answered), as soon as it stopped ringing, the podcast audio begain to play in the background.

so we all hate this crazy change that Apple made for no reason.

The problem with these discussion boards is that Apple ignores them.

Complaining here has no affect whatsoever.  Make a genius appointment and when they can not solve the issue they keep track of it.

Eventually they will get enough customers clogging the genius appointments for stupid things like this and they will fix it.

So. Has anyone else seen an improvement such as I cautiously optimistically believe *may* be the case now that iOS 6.1 has come out?

I’ve been following this thread for a while even though my issue appears to be somewhat different than what most posters here are describing.  Basically what’s been ailing me seems to be a superset of this problem and in fact preceded the event where Apple moved podcasts into the dedicated Podcast app with the release of iOS 6.  In fact it’s only been within the last few weeks that I took the step of running Podcast for the first time and beginning to use it in place of InstaCast.  For me, it’s been an issue with ANY audio app, and more often than not it’s the music app that starts playing some random song, and ONLY when connected to the Bluetooth in my car.

It has only been a few days, but I swear I think I can get in my car and drive without battling unwanted audio over my Bluetooth link to the car stereo.  I have noticed that when I stop at Starbucks in the middle of my morning news podcast or EVE-Online podcast and then return to the car; the podcast resumes.  BUT, if I wasn’t listening to something already, then it doesn’t go off and unilaterally play something (podcast, music, or whatever) on my behalf.  For the last few days I have been able to drive along with nothing playing; send a text via Siri; and continue on driving in silence unless *I* choose to play music or a podcast.  It’s almost too good to be true, so I’m worried that it’s just an anomaly or my iPhone just messing with my head.

Nope... I came here looking for a solution because I'm fed up. Just upgraded to 6.1, and hoped it would solve it; no luck.

The iPhone (4s) resumes podcasts just as soon as I plug the phone into the dock connector in my car (Alpine radio, bluetooth turned off or on, no difference.) This happens even when neither the Music app nor the Podcasts app is running when I plug in the phone, and since the app isn't even running I can't quit it to make it shut up.

The phone has a brain of its own, and it seems to have gone bonkers.

Get Podcasts 1.1.2 or iOS 6.1. Either one have fixed this problem already.
