Why should we accept anything but a new phone

I have done some investigating my router is D-Link 615 (had since2009) setting WEP firmware up to date and my iPhone only sees it when I'm stood next to it, move more than 4 foot away and can't even see it.

My neighbour have a net gear with WPA2 and I can't see there's at all even stood right next to it. And so it goes on the whole street have different routers and settings and its still the same.

I have a iPad 2 up to date with 6.01 and this has no issue with connecting so how does this mean its software

Just had notification the replacement is on the way should be here today so fingers crossed that this works but as I've read every forum going on this issue it my not be resolved that easily.

One thing I can tell you in the Nexus 4 is looking better all the time if it wasn't for the fact it android lol

I am also having problems with iOS 6.0.1 on my iphone 5. At home I noticed that I was on wifi then without any notice I was on LTE. This happened several times so then I reset my network and it seemed to fix the problem at home. However, at work I can't keep a connection to wifi and each time my phone locks I have to go under settings to reconnect. This is horrible, I hope they fix this soon!

Wow sounds like you need an IT dept change.   "No way we are going to change anything to accomodate our end users! Get over it!" Really?!?!

While they shouldnt have to, its the right thing to do until it is resolved by Apple ot Netgear or the wifi gods.

BTW I am and have been a VP and Director of IT for 10+ years and in support for more than 25 and end user support should be top priority over IT knuckle head ideas and security constraints. Wifi security is not limited to one protocol and while one may be better than the other its not end of world difference either way. Especially for short term and when end users are effected.

Unfortunately I am stuck.  We have an IT Department that has stated that in NO WAY will they alter the security parameters in place on our current router (Netgear).  It is out of my control - and I can't talk to Netgear about it. Our IT people said they will wait for Netgear to offer a resolution to allow iPhone 5's to connect to the router with the current settings in place.

Oh well, at least I can connect to every other router on the planet.

I have attempted restoring iphone, resetting router, turning on/off IPV6. My cellular usage is going through the rrof because I can't connect to my wifi. UGH

Well its been delivered and it works well so far it's connected to my network and can pick up everyone from our street.

Checked what build week 43 last one was week 42 both from same factory C3

This just proves it hardware not software

This may seem like a goofy question (and I didnt real all 143 pages here): is this effecting both White and Black models.  In other forums Im noticing nearly all people saying "my black iPhone 5". Just curious; Im about to return mine and wondered if I should request a white one (if thats even possible).

Heh, good question, I don't know. But I will say, that my wifes working phone is a white one, and mine is black.

Mine is white.  Build week of 17.  The WiFi chip is made by Apple.

It's getting worse and worse.  Unable to connect at all at work.

Home will connect but drops and can't remember password.

Have an appt with Genius bar today.  I don't know why I'm going.

Please exchange it while you can. I had one which had the same wifi issues - dropping, not remembering the network, because of all this bad battery life as well. My new phone works like a breeze. Totally cool and no issues (touchwood) with wifi or anything else. My battery life is better than the first phone as well.

Don't know what is the goof up here. I think it is a mix if hardware and software issue. There are many people for whom the issue got sorted out after iOS 6.0.1. If the issue still persists then, well, logically return and exchange.

    Good luck.

Something that worked for me was to set my IP to Manual rather than DHCP. Seems it has trouble assigning the automated IP allocation.

Some say setting DNS to Manual has fixed wifi connectivity for IOS6 in iPhone5 too.

Go google on how to find and set your manual IP settings on iPhones.

These steps have noticeably improved the wifi on my sprint iphone 5:

    1. No covers

    2. Turning Bluetooth off

    3. Manually setting DNS servers to 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 (these are Google DNS servers)

Note that I said improve and not fix.  Still not performing anywhere near my Galaxy S2 that I downgraded from.

NONE OF THIS SHOULD BE NECESSARY.  APPLE, YOUR Q/A TESTING OBVIOUSLY NEGLECTED WIFI PERFORMANCE PRIOR TO LAUNCH.  GOOD ONE.
