Regular problem of late, I'm afraid. Seems to be an App Store glitch and not exclusive to any particular app.
If it annoys you (it does me) click on the update icon which will identify the culprit. Uninstall it then, as you have already paid for it, reinstall it. The reinstall will be the updated version and should clear the update advice badge.
But I agree, it is a nuisance.

But I don't even have this installed. I have MS remote desktop to get to my Windows servers, but I don't use it to get to other Macs. The button to the right of the update is greyed and says installed, but I don't have the app available to run.

I cannot speak for anything other than a Mac.
On a Mac, the update button is top right hand on the App Store opening screen. If it is decorated with a number, say 1, then that means there is one update available. Clicking on that I should bring up a profile of the app it applies to.
If it's an app you've already updated the small panel to the right of that app will say installed even though the button at top right has a 1 in it.
And therein lies the problem that beppnbe wanted to solve. And my response gave one solution to removing it.
If you have a missing App it could be in two places. Either 'Hidden' or could have found its way to your applications folder.
