I was wondering about the same thing.

But I just noticed, when you start writing next to the search(loupe) icon, where usually you type the web adress, it will show you just below it the history of your search, not sure if you saw that, i think that help me.

    Cheers

Apple......notice a trend.  Not a single comment in this thread likes having their search bar taken away.  Why not give it to us as an option??  It's all about CHOICE and not CONTROL!!!

Another customer who is unhappy with this change.  Things I dislike:

    * Showing "recent searches" in the URL bar when I click into it (this does not stop if you select "Prevent search engine from providing suggestions")

    * Lack of separate search box to view my previous searches in NEW TABS.  In Safari 5 my most recent search would be included on all tabs and I use this functionality often to repeat a same or similar search in a new tab.

    * URL not showing in omnibar when I make google searches.  I just don't like my search results showing in the URL location, sorry.

    * DNS search domain functionality changed to accomodate google searching within the omnibar.  Small complaint as I now have to add a trailing slash to local names.

    * Omnibar offers to google search in the dropdown before suggesting my bookmarks and history.

I'm sure this is useful or nice for some people.  I'm not asking that it be killed, just asking that we get the option to use separate inputs for search and URL.

Were there any hiccups or a downside when you switched to Chrome?  I have a MacBook.

    Thanks for the feedback.

For me, the only thing was finding the right extensions to make chrome work the way I want it to but so far I am happy with it and it seems to be a really good browser. I was a little confused on how to install my 1password extension until I figured out that I have to drag and drop it in the extension settings to install it.

I don't see how Chrome will address most (any?) of the points here.  Is there a way to break out of the Chrome omnibox and have a separate URL and Search box?

Chrome does not address the search bar issues but if I am forced to use an omnibox I will move to chrome. If you are specifically looking to get the separate search box back then Firefox may be what you are looking for. I thought about moving to firefox but chrome is a lot more simple and I had heard a lot of good things about chrome and I use multiple computers and the sync feature works very well with chrome by default.

Hey guys, when I click on text and choose "search with google" it opens it up in the same page and not a new tab. How do I get the search with google feature to open in a new tab on safari. I can care lesss they took the google bar away because I can search just as good putting it in the address bar. It's the same as a search bar.

Any suggestions for the tabs part?

I really dislike the Yahoo search engine. I hate the fact that it doesn't give me the auto-correct/auto-finish of words and sentences that i'm searching for. Is there ANY solution to this?

what do you mean "use the same search words in other tabs" I mean you would remember what you searched on the other tabs anyway... and the URL reappears after changing tabs.

yeah, this drives me nuts, too. i found that if you hold down shift-option-command when you select that, it opens in a new window, behind the one you're clicking in.

on another note, i was really extremely freaked when the google search box disappeared... for about 5 minutes. now i love the new system. i wasn't able to upgrade the software on my old 13" macbook, however... now it drives me nuts when i HAVE to use the google search box.

honestly people. try it. you'll love it.

Actually, susteph, we've been trying it....for 4 or 5 months & anyone I've talked to HATES it.

It's honest to God, the stupidest thing I think Apple has done in a very long while.  It's caused me (& many other people) to switch from Safari to Firefox & I'm pretty sure that wasn't the plan when they came up with this brilliant idea.
