Q: Is Server App v2 actually in the app store? Need to manage a 10.8 server

The first line of this KB articale talks about Server App being in the App store.

I can see "OS X Server" but no Server App - does anyone know how to get Server App to amange a 10.8 server?

Cheers

It's the same thing, there is no separate server admin for remote management. server management is included

Only wgm is available for download as per the KB

If you look at osx server version in the mac app store you'll see it's version 2.1.1

    Thanks for that,

We just bought a Mac Mini server (so no App Store purchase) and now need to download Server App to a laptop for remote management.

    How do I do that?

From where I'm sitting, it looks like we have to buy OS X server again - but this time from the App store so we can install it?

    Sorry, just a bit confused.

I don't blame you for feeling confused !

I have read you can use server.app to remotely manage osx server

If you open it but do not proceed with configuration

From manage menu choose connect to server and enter the ip or fqdn of the server

    I haven't tried it myself

How you go about that with a Mac mini server, I don't know

I don't know if copying server.app from the mac mini to another machine running 10.8 would work

    Probably not

You could give apple a call, you should be entitled to free support from apple

From memory it's a month of free support from the date of your first phone call

VNC, screen share, ARD are other options

Copy the Server app to another 10.8 machine in the same manner you would copy any other file.

It does work to control a remote server in the way iToaster outlines in his post.

Thanks guys, I'll contact Apple as the laptop I'll be copying this to is a 10.7 machine - I can download 10.7 server tools but it's the 10.6 interface so doesn't configure things automatically like the new versions - from what I can see anyway.

    Cheers

You"lll have to update the "management" laptop  machine to 10.8 to run osx server app 2.1.1 on it
