Dual Display Help

My Dual Display randomly stopped working. It worked fine before, then all of a sudden I connected my Mini Displayport Cable/HDMI cable to my TV and my computer screen went blue, but nothing happened. I also have no option in my system preferences -> displays menu for dual displays/multiple display option - I simply just have "Display/Color" tabs at the top (I also have my 'mirroring options' box checked). I have restarted and shut down the computer (as well as tried just about every combination with plugging in/powering off my TV, which I am using as my second display) and checked that I have all of the current updates on my software - I reinstalled it, too). Any suggestions on how to fix this?

    You've done all the relevent troubleshooting (reinstalling the OS probably was over the top though). I suspect the cable. Do you have a friend who was a computer with the MiniDisplay Port or are you close to an Apple store? If you can check the cable before going to the expense of getting a new one that would be good.
