Q: my retina macbook is slow to startup when my external drive is attached
Ive had my macbook retina for a couple of days now and generally the boot time is amazingly fast. But it seems that now Ive connected my usb devices to it (including my external drive) there is a long pause on the white screen at the beginning of startup . If I unplug everything it goes back to being really fast again!
is this normal?
thanks for any help!

This is normal. It happens to me too.
Your MBP is mounting, identifying the devices and also checking whether any of those disks are bootable.
