It's getting about that time I replace my internal HD's for my 2x2.8 GHZ Quad Core Intel Xenon.

I'm looking for a 1 TB and a 2 TB  for general computer work, photoshop and such with good life expectations, warranty and price.

I also have multiple external Quad 2 Lacies hooked up.

Any Recomendations would be appreciated.

Hello, not really a PowerMac, but a similar looking to a G5 PM, Mac Pro.

I'd go with the WD Black drives myself...

Yep, second that on WD Black drives. Hitachi 7K drives are also good, but stay 2TB and smaller on either.

I've spec'd for others and purchased for myself the WD Black line. Good drives, with a 5 year warranty. Expensive though.

You state "I'm looking for a 1 TB and a 2 TB  for general computer work, photoshop and such with good life expectations, warranty and price.". The link provided above for macsales has the 2TB at close to $200 each, the same drive at Amazon now is in the $175 range. Expensive for home use especially if you have a viable data backup system.

I've set up machines like yours, with Photoshop in mind, with 3 disks. The primary disk for the general OS / Applications / Data installed disk, the second disk for a Photoshop scratch disk, the third disk to be enabled as a Time Machine backup. The scratch disk does not have to be large, and in fact one of your current disks could be repurposed for this use. I generally advise to go with a middle of the road disk, WD Blue would work in this case. 2TB Blues are available in the cost range of $105 at this time through Amazon.

I've had good luck with Seagate also (and I know that recommending a brand can get things heated quickly, like a vi vs emacs and all that kind of stuff, so I'll stop there). Whatever works for you, or has worked for you in the past is the best choice. All manufacturers have had their problems over the years, things get resolved.

I would get 3 middle of the road WD 2TB 64MB cache drives in your machine for $100 total cost less than the two top of the line WD drives, enjoy faster Photoshop performance, have the added security of internal Time Machine backups. Use your LaCie externals for what you will (I'd recommend one or both as a Carbon Copy Cloner backup, swap offsite if your data is extremely important to you).

Good to see some new blood & advice here, thanks Verni !

Lesson is, never expect because something is new or expensive, that it will work properly. TEST< TEST< TEST, and then test again. After all tests, run it for a week before you do anything important with it.

    Outstanding advice!
