Hi. I recently had ubuntu installed on my late 2008 15" Macbook Pro, but I decided to get Leopard back and upgrade (the laptop shipped with Leopard). I grabbed my recover DVD (which was quite scratched after almost 5 years in my closet), stuck it in the factory disc drive, erased the hard drive completely, and *tried* to start the installation. I got through the DVD verification just fine, but before it could even finish calculating the estimated time, it gave me a message saying "Installation error; Could not verify contents of BaseSystem package". So, I tried again; didn't work. I decided to go ahead and order a Snow Leopard DVD from eBay, but I need to know some things first:

1) Was it just my DVD that's causing the error, due to the seemingly infinite scratches, or a computer hardware error? and

2) Will this error occur when upgrading to Snow Leopard if I'm using the retail DVD? If so, how do I go about fixing it without buying a new computer?

I don't mind doing whatever it takes at this point!

Thanks!!!

    Hello,

    1. Tough to tell, most likely the Disc, but could be anything.

    2. SL/10.6 would likely be cheaper...

    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...

    General requirements

       * Mac computer with an Intel processor

        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)

        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)

        * DVD drive for installation

        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.

        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.

Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.

Call Apple Sales...in the US: 1-800-MY-APPLE. Or Support... 1-800-275-2273

    Other countries...

PS. If eBaying for a 10.5 Install Disc, be aware Gray Discs are mostly Vomputer specific.

Sorry I didn't clarify: I am ordering SL from eBay. My bad. Well, I'll update this question if and when it works!

Alright well it took about 30 minutes to install (not a problem for me) and after this it gave the message "Snow Leopard was properly installed on your 'Untitled' Hard Drive with a big check mark, restarts the computer, plays the welcome video (really cool if I must say so) and you run through the setup sequence for the first time use. Then, it works!!!
