Thanks for the suggestions. There is life in the iMac since I can open applicastions from the iMac G5HD such as Safari which allows me to access the internet. There is no desktop or dock or into at the top of the screen. Other than the lonely iMac G5 HD icon, there is a sea of blue. I tried booting up from the install Disc by holding the C key, but the same blue screen appeared.
What do these symptoms mean? Almost total failure, so I should plan on getting the latest iMac?
Appreciate your assistance,

All is not lost, try this...
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
