I've always had the audio and video out of sync issue randomly in Netflix on my Apple TV2. No black screen or other problems though. I fix the audio issue by stopping and restarting the movie.

It happens so frequently the last couple of days that I'm having to do it at least twice per episode of a show I'm watching. It also doesn't always resume where it left off so I get to fast forward to the spot.
Not fun. This got really bad after the last update.

I have the exact same issue, during a film it will likely go black and bom out about 3 times (having to fast forward and try and remember where you are) and the audio and video will usually go out of sync by about 10 seconds out around 3 times per video...
This is the only reason I bought an Apple TV (I'm using an ATV3 and the problems started a LOT more with the latest update)
I have also suffered issues with buffering before the update (even though I have fibre optic internet and it steams fine with our samnsung recorder, although the netflix app on the samsung is crap so would rather use the UI of the Apple TV). Also the pictures of the videos sometimes don't load so we have to restart the Apple TV for the netflix cover pictures to display...
Not happy this and with so many software issues on my iPhone 5 I feel Apple are just rushing out updates without actually testing them.. I hope they sort themselves out..

I've had this same problem for many months, tried almost everything in frustration.
The following seemed to have temporarily solved the problem for me and has been working.
1) Physical Lan cable (RJ45) plugged into router worked fine no drop outs.
2) (This being the main problem and wifi is clearly the preferred use) Wifi connection, if you are using an "N" router, then in the settings of your router try changing it to only use "g" mode.
I hope this might help you.

Had this happen to us twice in the last week with an ATV3, Ethernet connected via Verizon FIOS. Backing out of Netflix and going back in seems to fix it. It does not fix itself on its own, I.e. we've left it running for 10 mins without it correcting itself.

Oddly a few weeks ago we got a new router as it was on at a special price, and when we switched them the Apple TV started working fine, not sure if coincidence or not but both Routers old and new were Wireless N.

I am also having this same problem...but it extends to hulu as well. I have tried to restart the unit, restart the movie or show, etc. I have only had 1 movie in the last 48 hours go all the way through without the audio and video going out of sync. This is very frustrating. Its been like this ever since the last update. I have never had an issue until then.
