Q: Ipod Won't sync to Windows 8 PC

My PC with Windows 8 was crashing after syncing my Ipod Nano. I was not experiencing the problem when Syncing my IPAD nor my classic IPOD. I was getting a blue screen with a message WDF_Violation after sync my IPOD NANO. I followed a recommendation I found ina MS forum of uninstalling Itunes and some other Apple applications and then reinstalling everything, but the problem persisted. I had the impression that a violation was triggered when Itunes was trying to automatically eject the NANO, but it was hard to tell due to the blue screen error. What I decided to do is to check on the IPOD Nano SUMMARY page ENABLE DISK USE. This requires to manually eject the device before disconnecting it (Task bar, right click on devices and then select the IPOD NANO to disconnect your IPOD). I have connected/disconnected  the IPOD NANO multiple times and  so far so good, no blue screen. Has anybody experienced this problem and found a different solution?

Try enablilng your IPOD for DIsk Use. Both my IPOD and iNano are working now after doing it. You just have to manually eject the device by selecting saftely discconect the USB devices on the taskbar (left click on the icon on the taskbar).

I've enabled it for disk use, and my PC is still crashing. Someone needs to do something about this, this has gotten beyond annoying.

So, after spending a few hours on the phone with an Apple tech person - who was trying his best to figure this out - I brought his attention to these messages.  We finally figured out that Windows 8 driver for the new generation ipod nano & the latest version of itunes do not like one another.  It has to be the three of these items together before it crashes.  The driver is not working properly in this scenario.  I did discover that I can add a few items at a time and it will work.  When I tried to synch my entire library for first use with the new nano it would not do it.  By adding 10 or so items at a time I finally got what I wanted on the ipod.  When it crashes it also causes the nano to turn off after a minute or so and it has to be reset to factory settings before use again so you don't want to get too agressive with adding items to it because once it crashes you'll have to give up everything you have on there to reset it and get it to stay on.  Very frustrating.

Microsoft needs to fix the Windows 8 driver!

Enabling my iPod Nano 6G for Disk Use solved the issue.

Thanks for the tip... because BSODing every sync was beyond annoying.

I am also having this problem with my 3rd, 5th, and 6th gen nanos. The v11.0 of iTunes resulted in the same BSOD every time iTunes loaded or when trying to sync. I set iTunes to run in Win XP and Win 7 compatability modes and it seemed to work for a while. After the 11.0.1 update though, I'm getting blue screen again. I seriously tried 10 times this morning to sync a couple podcasts to no avail.

I've looked for viable alternatives....WinAmp, MediaMonkey...and they're just not as convenient as iTunes.

Apple...Microsoft....patch, new version, new driver.....SOMETHING?!?!?! PLEASE!! This BLOWS.

I'm having the same problem with my classic. Just bought a new computer with Windows 8 and cannot get it to sync new purchases. Keep getting wdf_vioation and the computer shuts down. I'm so frustrated.

The person I have been communicating with keeps sending me stupid info and articles to read. NONE of it has helped with the blue screen WDF_violation (more accurately *** to me) I get every time I even connect my iPod nano to my computer that has WIndows 8.  I also think Windows 8 and Apple (iTunes) have a problemwith one another.  I can open my iTunes and listen to the music I have purchased from iTunes, but when I try tp sync and download it to my iPod nano by connecting my nano to my computer I immediately get a blue screen and a ***_violation code.  The computer asks me if I want to send the info to Microsoft  and I have sent it a dozen times. Now I don't waste my time with that because they apparently don't look at the info and do anything. I am no techie, so I'm pretty much screwed.  I can still buy music on iTunes but will never buy another until I am able to sync my nano and download the tunes to it so that I can listen to them independent of my computer.

Does the ipod Nano 7th gen do this. I bought it because Everytime I try to sync my 80 gb classic crappy Windows 8 blu screens with the annoying sad face complaining about wdf_violation.

Where I bought the nano I can't return it.

Got my 7gen Nano yesterday and it synced fine in Windows 8.  It's setup as Disk Mode by default.  It shows the box to uncheck it but I won't dare do that.  I just use the Safty remove hardware to disconnect it when I am done.
