Thanks Bob. It isn't a problem with the email addresses or the domain/server I am sending to as it does this with all of my addresses. All of these addresses work on my PC.
One note however is that I was able to send a couple of emails at a hotel in LA when I was using either their Wifi or 3G but this has not worked for me since.

Try this: Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again.
Thanks so much Tom for your help. I have done this a few times over the last several months and it wouldn't work for me. I tried it 4 times today after your suggestion before it would work. I have talked to Apple support and my network provider and neither of them could solve it over these months. A friend suggested I go to this chat room as they had similar problems with their IPhone and the online community solved it.
When I am setting up the outgoing mail a message comes up that it cannot verify the identity of my network provider. When I ignored this a few times it gave me a different server port # than my provider has been giving me. I sure hope this info helps others who may be struggling with this.
