Thanks very much for doing this - and they will make one additional sale as soon as the files are updated.
Please do let us know once they show up! I'm flying to Tokyo a week from tomorrow and hoped to download and watch the series in sequence on my iPad en route!

JiminSF, you can enjoy Fellowship of the Ring now in stereo, but the other two probably won't get their stereo makeover until November.

Will there be any way to tell when it's happened?

If you haven't already bought one of the bad files, probably not. Which is why I'll post here when I know something. SUPPOSEDLY all previous purchasers will be contacted by iTunes, but I'll check in with them or WB in a few weeks, if I haven't heard anything.
The guy said it takes two to three weeks for them to get the file to iTunes, and then iTunes normally takes a few weeks to compress it for their final file. But since it's only the AUDIO portion that is being swapped out, it may take less time that that. He wasn't sure.

Yesterday I emailed WB and iTunes for an update. Today WB sent me new download codes so I was hopeful.
Nah - same bad mono movies - for the fifth time. I've emailed Mr Gewecke again, to see if he can encourage someone to actually answer my question. Unfortunately, the guy from WB Home Video who phoned me a month ago with the happy news did not email me as he said he would, so I have no way of contacting him directly.

Bizarre. They should know (and if they don't, please tell them!) that there are people who are waiting on the purchase until this is fixed. I will buy this the day they fix it, but I'm not paying money for broken audio that based on performance to date may never be corrected.

Last night I got another apologetic phone call from Warner Bros, and also got an email from iTunes saying they were going to look into it.
So there is light at the end of the tunnel - just not sure how long the tunnel is. I conveyed your message, JiminSF!

So, is this for the 1080p version as well? I want to purchase this bundle in iTunes but if the movies are in mono, I won't bother until they fix the issue.

Yes, if you go back through this thread, apparently someone had the same problem with the HD version.

Right. The way it sounded like that they may have fixed the HD itunes version but not the SD version. Am I right you only have access to the SD version on iTunes and it may be possible they fixed the HD after the response? I hoped there might be a different response after this long tussle on iTunes.

Sorry I wasn't able to reply earlier. The forum was down due to maintenance, apparently.
I don't know what gave you the impression that the HD version may have been fixed. There is every indication that neither version was fixed. Both the SD and HD use the same audio files (I was told by the WB guy) so they SHOULD be fixed at the same time.
BUT today I got an email from iTunes customer support saying that the engineers had reported back to him that the files are no longer mono. They suggested that I try to download them now. Unfortunately, I got home so late that I am only now at 10pm downloading "Return of the King" and will let it continue after I go to bed, so I won't have anything to report until tomorrow.
I am still skeptical, because the engineers could give no information on WHEN the "no longer mono" happened. And there was also some confusion - yet again - that I was saying the files were not 5.1 surround, which has never been what I told them. I've just been saying that they're mono and not stereo, so someone is not paying attention.
Also, I've heard nothing back from the woman who phoned me from Warner Bros last week.
Anyway, hopefully I'll have some good news to tell you on Tuesday. Stand by!

I'm happy to report that "The Return of the King" is now STEREO. I'm sad to report that "The Two Towers" is still MONO. I downloaded it this morning.
I'll let iTunes know now and get back to you when there's news. Still, we're making progress!

Thanks for keeping this up! It's really too bad they can't get this right. With The Hobbit around the corner, I hope they get it resolved before then.

Any fix for The Two Towers yet?
