I seem to be having the same issue lots of folks have vis-a-vis getting iMessage on my MBP to work.  I sign into Messages and use my apple id and password (which work in iTunes for instance) and then get the dreaded "Could not sign into iMessage.  The server encountered and error processing registration.  Please try again later."

Been trying for several days with no success.  Is there a solution to this issue or should I just give up on Messages on the MBP?

    HI,

A new cause (In fact the only definite one so far) has come to light today.

Do you have computer that has been refurbished or repaired in any way that involves the Graphics card or Motherboard ?

It seems that in some cases the Serial Numbers are not being flashed back to the replacement and this info is used as a security check by some apps with Messages and the iMessages login being one of them.

In fact about 3 months ago I had a graphics card that died so the motherboard was replaced.

    Hi,

In that case hold down the ALT key whilst using the top item in the Apple Menu

This will open the System Info (Used to be System Profiler).

Check the Hardware item itself shows a Serial number.  (there are some laptops where the graphics card is integral to the motherboard).

Under Hardware there is a system serial number listed.  Under the graphics section of hardware, there is no serial number listed, nor is there a place for a serial number to be displayed.

    HI,

That is the same on my iMac (Mountain Lion), MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and my older G4/1Ghz Dual processor tower.

The tower definitely has a separate Graphics card.

It would appear that this is not your issue then.

Have you tried adding a Pubilc DNS server to the Network settings ?

Google run 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab)
