You should be able to change the size of the Finder window by dagging from a corner without the option key.
Try resetting your Finder prefs....
Go to your Finder "Go" menu hold the option key and choose Library. Then go to Preferences folder and trash this file:
Then, restart, or log out and in again.
(You may have to reset a few finder prefs the way you like them.)

Thanks for the reply. I tried to delete that file but the problem persists.
I can change the size of all windows and Finder remembers the size of each one.
The problem is default size of the new folders or folders that have not changed its windows size are always the same and are very small.

I'm having trouble visualizing this. Can you post a screenshot? Use cmd+shift-3 or cmd-shift 4 for part of the screen. Then use the camera icon in your reply toolbar to post it.
