I am getting an "Unsupported Image Format" error when I try to download photos.  I can see them at first when I can check or uncheck what should be imported, but get the error after they are added to the library.  I tried importing NEF and both as NEF or JPEG.  I repeated the process and settings I have been using with my Nikon D7000.

Aperture 3, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

My new camera is a Nikon D600.  This is what is giving me the "Unsupported image format" error.

OS X doesn't support the D600 yet.  It's a brand new camera.  Historically Apple has supported the new cameras from Canon and Nikon fairly soon after they've been available, but nobody here knows an exact ETA.

Yes it's probably a bigger deal for Apple to create an update version then it is for Adobe but it would be nice if they would put the resources into getting them out sooner. More than anything in adds to my feeling that Apple does not seem to be as aggressive in the photo market as I wish they were. Aperture is a fantastic app I just wish they would put more resources into it. With almost billions in the bank you would think that Apple could Aperture the best photo App in the world.

Yes, Adobe released on Oct 3, but if similar to what took place with the D800, it would only apply to LR4, and not earlier, and perhaps only to PS CS6, and not CS5 -- but that might be too pessimistic.

My camera shop was telling me yesterday that they have never seen the distribution channels get a new camera released to retail so quickly.  That speed contributes to the failure to match up Digital Camera RAW and this new camera.  With the D800 I have, I got one very early, but the RAW decoder was available at the same time.

Aperture RAW support for the D600 is released today. Get it from the App Store.

Thank you to you for the heads up and thank you to Apple also. Wish it was faster but that is the way it is.

I have OS X 10.8.2  and updated OS and Aperture and still can't see the Nikon D600 RAW files in Apple Aperture, as of Nov. 11, 2012.

Click on Aperture in the command bar, and choose About Aperture.  In the resulting window observe and report the version of Digital Camera RAW that is given?

    Ernie,

    It says

Digital Camera RAW 4.00- Build 658.4

    Digital Camera RAW Support - 4000 - Build 34.3

D600 capability came with Digital Camera RAW 4.01 Build 666.8.  You need to do a Software Update.  It did not come with 10.8.2, but later.

Thanks, Ernie, for your guidance and help.

I did download the update but it won't install.  I get a message 'The software is not supported in your system.'  I have OS 10.8.2  with Aperture 3.4.2 so it should not be a problem.

    David,

Did you resolve this?  Is Aperture located at the first level of the Applications folder, and named simply Aperture?

I would recommend installing the latest 3.4.3 version of Aperture released yesterday.  While announced to only address a recognition of Serial number, that problem may relate to this nonsensical notice of incompatibility.

I saw a similar issue here. You could try downloading the combo updater, installing that, then try installing the RAW updater again.

If that doesn't work, then you'll need to copy your /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist file to your desktop, then make a copy of it (for backup purposes), then open it in TextEdit to change the ProductBuildVersion from 12C2034 to 12C1999. Copy the edited version back to the CoreServices folder, and you should be able to install the RAW updater.

After the install is finished, change the version number back by renaming the backup copy you made back to its original name and copy that back to the CoreServices folder.

    Hello Ernie,

Aperture is located at the first level of Application folder and simply named Aperture already.

I did upgraded to Aperture 3.4.3 but still no luck in viewing Nikon D600 raw file.

    This is a hard one.
