Not sure who else to blame, these third party cases have been designed in a similar fashion for every iteration of the iPhone. But more to the point, I understand that the more expensive "guaranteed" solution would work, but it makes a less appealing dock solution for my Beatbox...it will work, but not as designed.
I am not complaining about the money (if money were an issue, most of us would not own a $400 discounted phone), but how hard would it have been to make the tongue/tip a little longer.

I take back what I said about this being an Apple problem. It's a case mgf issue. They should've left the cutout for the power the same as a 30 pin (iPhone 3g-4s models) and we'd never noticed a thing. Ironic - with the new lightning plug- the manufacturers didn't have to change a thing- could've just left the power port pass-thru stay as with all prior iPhones.
I did cut the case I got - but it 30 pin adapter for lightining still didn't fit and now the case bottom isn't stable ($15 investment that I'm okay with not working). Going to go without a case and just use skins - which is what I did for 3 years with my first iPhone.

Couldn't agree more. The adaptor really should have an extension piece, or stub, as I call it.
Below I have posted two photos. One is the way it comes from Apple, and the other is one I mocked up in Photoshop of the way I think it should be. And here's something else to consider: of the five 30-pin devices I've tried to use it with—two microphones, two radio transmitters and a power 30-pin charging cable, all of which worked with my other iPhones—only the charging cable works. Don't know if it's an iOS6 issue, iPhone 5 issue or whatever, but the adaptor and it's sibling adaptor cable are useless to me. This is a big Apple flub.
Forgot to add that the new Lightening to USB Camera Connector will not work with an iPhone 5. Nowhere on the packaging does it say it is only for use with iPad. What in the world? Why shouldn't we be able to upload photos to the iPhone with this connector kit, and if not, why don't the adversie it that way. It's back to the Apple Store for me with three adaptors that are useless... except one for charging.
