Currently using Imac early 2009 with Fire wire connected Gdrive --> Drobo 2nd gen.

I keep current project and events on the Main hard drive

little older projects on teh Gdrive

much older projects and events on the Drobo.

All is well and no issues.

Update to 10.0.6 yesterday.

Fired up 10.0.6 and received the update projects and events and let it do it's thing.

Started to import some video, files etc.. into a project on the main drive  At some point received an error saying either the drive was not writable or full etc... quit or loose all your files.  Repeatable and never saw it before.  Re start final cut and get the update events and projects message again.

After some troubleshooting it only happens with the Drobo is mounted.  If it is not mounted I can start, modify quit etc... with out error sor seeing the update message.  Mount the drobo and start FCP and get the message and error after working with any files even NOT on the Drobo.  I assume Final cut is trying to upgrade the events and cant write to it.

Called Drobo and they have no issues and since I can write to the drive via the OS they pointed me to FCP upgrade.

Looking at the support page I come to find I don't have any support from apple because I have owned FCP for more than 90 days.

I am lost and could use some help.

Do you have the events and projects in the "Final Cut Events/Projects" folders on the Drobo?

Try creating two "holding" folders and see if this helps.

Your live projects/events live in the active folders and everything else gets moved into a holding folder so that FCPX only has to load the project/events that you are actively working on.

let us know how you go.

    Thank you Tony,

I see how that could be a work around, but with some more troubleshooting I don't see that as a solution becuase the files that don't load will never be able to get updated to the new format.

    Update====

Thought this through and did some more troubleshooting

If I don't mount the drobo or if it is mounted but I don't let FCP to attampt to update the files all is well except of course I cant use the files on it.

I tried connecting to the Mac directly instead of daisy chain through the G drive= same behavior.

On start up if Drobo is connected and i choose to update the files it takes about 2 mins to start up and more than 5 minutes to quit.  With activity monitor up on exit of FCP, activity monitor actually shows it is not responding and a beach ball, though there is disk activity until in about 5 minutes it quits FCP and all is well.

It is definately something to do with Drobo and the update that was not there yesterday before I updated.

I am dissapointed that Apple has no recourse for this type of question even if I have had the program for a year.

Thanks for any help you can give to solve it.

No one else is having any issues like this?

I assume I am not the only one that uses the Drobo in this way?

    Rick

not using a Drobo myself so can not test at this end.

Suggestions, these are all ones that whilst not specific to your issue may in some way be related, worth trying.

    1. (an oldy but a goodie) run disk utility over the disk and system, eliminate any issues there and perhaps try onyx as well.

    2. Additionally try using the Digital rebellion application on the projects.

check for compatibility with 10.0.6 though.

let us know how you go.

Having the exact same problem. Upgraded yesterday to FCPX 10.0.6 and have spent 2 days traying to figure out the porblem.

The only way I've been able to work is by moving all files out of the Drobo to another drive and dismount the Drobo before starting FCP.

Hopefully Apple can come up with a solution to this.
